ZEITGEIST is a play I started working on three years ago—trying to make sense of my life and the world, but also to celebrate the community of young people I’ve come to know and love. Brilliant, beautiful folks striving to create something good—amid global unrest and around their day jobs.

This show is deeply personal. So many moments are lifted from my own life. I don’t think I’ll ever find the words to express how grateful I am to those who gave their time to this project. You helped me fall back in love with this city, this community, and my creative practice.

To the best cast I could’ve asked for @elenamilo_ @ethan_zuchkan @sofia.farahani @ali_the_farhadi @nicholas_eddie @rach_heron —you brought these characters to life and made them yours. I love you all.

To @sodicicco , our SM, for taking care of all of us.

To @christopher.elizabeth_ for the lights, and @alexgrozdanis for the projections—you made this show look so beautiful I could cry.

To @alli_carry , my partner in everything, and the best fucking choreographer in any medium.

To @allyamzie —designer, marketer, photographer—your eye is unmatched.

To @averyjeanrose , for your beautifully specific intimacy work.

To @__jacobwillis —my producer, best friend, and work wife.

To everyone who workshopped this play through its many lives, the show would not be what it is without you.

To @asenia.lyall and @ryanborochovitz , for your generous dramaturgy.

And to everyone who came to see the show—thank you for taking the leap with us.

Since we closed, I’ve been thinking about this Kurt Vonnegut quote: “What should young people do with their lives today? Many things, obviously. But the most daring thing is to create stable communities in which the terrible disease of loneliness can be cured.”

Last night, I got a message from someone I have never met. They told me they were moved by the show and it made them feel less alone in their struggle. I have received more than my share of good fortune in this life, but that in particular feels really special.

If you were involved with ZEITGEIST in any way at all, either behind the scenes or in the audience, thank you from the bottom of my very full heart. by @benyoganathan

ZEITGEIST is a play I’m currently developing. Some very generous and talented artists agreed to help me make a sort of proof of concept film. It captures the energy of the show but also, I think, it’s a beautiful thing in and of itself. Enjoy :)
