I turned 38 nineteen days ago 🎂 & I’ve been rewriting this post for days! 😵‍💫 Sharing it feels scary & vulnerable, but keeping it to myself would be silencing my own voice, so here it goes:

My 37th year humbled me beyond belief. And it was necessary. Everything I’d been building for the past few years completely crumbled. All of the things I held onto: the performance that gave me a false sense of security, the collaborations I thought would last a lifetime, the romantic attachments I held at arm’s length, the idealistic fantasies I embraced as reality, they all fell apart. My finances took a big hit, so did my self-concept. When the curtain was pulled back, I was left with the woman in the mirror, the only constant in my life: myself 🧘🏻‍♀️

The universe pushed me to release, to let go of the life I thought I wanted in order to make room for the life that has been waiting for me all along. I’ve shed more tears in the past 6 months than I thought was possible. I even gave myself fake laryngitis! (Inflamed vocal folds from crying too much 💁🏻‍♀️ Who knew it was possible?!) I’m finally living in a constant state of being 3 exhale breaths away from crying. Those of you who went to drama school with me know what a big deal this is. Anya would be proud. (I hope)😭🤣

I am here now: raw, bare, ready. Letting the story I was born to tell (@bordergirlsfilm) reveal itself to me piece by piece, without trying to force or control it is a challenge onto itself. The creative process is a big act of surrender, after all.

In numerology, 3️⃣8️⃣ is the number of the embodied visionary: one who creates from wholeness, not hustle.

This year isn’t about DOING more.
It’s about BECOMING more ME.
And letting that be ENOUGH.

3 = trinity
8 = infinity

Numerology by: @iamchristinadeering & @veronika38 💝 Thank you, both!

I am here now in the midst of a transformation & music has been a great comfort in this process 🌀 In my bio, I’ve linked a playlist of the top 38 songs that have accompanied, consoled & inspired me. It’s really a 38-song journey into my two-year nomadic adventure.

Thank you for holding space. Follow @bordergirlsfilm if you’d like to support my creation 🎬 by @bereodri

It truly takes a village, and here are our two final “Ms. Maxwell Presents: The Murder Game” LA team members… the sensational @bereodri who served as our rehearsal cover, and @justinchiao, our amazing dialect coach!

Berenice Odriozola is an actor, writer, and producer who will soon make her directorial debut on the independent feature @bordergirlsfilm. A graduate of @atlanticactingschool, Berenice also holds a B.A. from @usfca, where she majored in Media Studies and minored in Film. Raised between Tijuana, Mexico and San Diego, CA, Berenice is proudly bicultural and speaks English, Spanish, and French fluently. Select credits include: Film: sad girl (@officialmarfafilmfestival, @lesfilmfestival), What We Meant At Dinner (@ambiguousfilms), @brunchinbabel, and the upcoming feature Playhouse. Theatre: @convention1944, zounds! (@edfringe). She is honored to support @nytimes standout @safibole on developing her immersive masterpiece!

Justin Chiao was born in Columbia, Missouri, but grew up in Tainan, Taiwan. Alma mater: NYU Gallatin. Training: Atlantic Acting School, CAP21. Off-Broadway: Grasshopper in “James and the Giant Peach” (Atlantic Theater Company). New York: The Captain in “Widows” (Green Oasis), Mayor Green in Hasbro’s “Clue” (Broadway Murder Mysteries), Oscar in “A Language of Their Own” (IATI Theater). Film/TV: Dominant Species (NYU MFA), Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens (Comedy Central), Shattered (Investigation Discovery), Almost There (Audience Network). He’s rather fond of the IPA (not the pint) and thoroughly enjoyed sharing his enthusiasm for RP with the cast (see Ask-List). INFP. taken in North Hollywood Arts District by @bereodri

I would be remiss to fall back into my Scorpio-rising fortress of privacy without first acknowledging another big sad that shook me to my core recently. My aunt Lourdes passed away quite suddenly after a brief illness. She was a remarkable woman. If I can be half the girlfriend & wife she was, I will have accomplished a big lifelong dream.

She and my uncle Pepe were (still are) true soulmates: the kind of love you read about & see in the movies. I cannot think of two people more perfectly matched & more devoted to each other. Her commitment & dedication to my uncle’s health & well-being, her immense love for him & his family, has lifelong reverberations. She might be physically gone, but her love remains. I was on the receiving end of that love when I last saw her two years ago. None of us knew it would be our last time together.

We talked about starting a business to sell her crafts online. She started making samples, some of which my sister & I gifted to our friends for their baby showers. It was going to be an exciting new venture for the three of us, and then it was over, just like that.

I won’t insult her memory by waxing poetic about the brevity of life. She would hate that, and she wouldn’t hesitate to make it known. I miss her unique blend of strength of character & feminine softness. I will say that her departure changed me, it softened me, and it inspires me to tap into my duality more: the balance between feminine & masculine energies that live inside me, too.

A big goal for me this 2nd half of 2026 is balance. I think my tía Lulú mastered that beautifully. She believed in & embodied true love. I know she’s gone back to the source of all creation, sending love down through an invisible thread that binds us together forever 🧶

💝 by @bereodri

41 days ago, we lost my uncle after a long battle with cancer. he was one of the kindest, most generous men I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. a father figure in every sense of the word, he sent me this song, one of his favorites, and it has accompanied me on my nomadic journey over the past 2 years. I think he knew I needed to hear it because he knew me so well 🩵

I was proudly born & raised in Tijuana, Mexico, but NYC is my adopted home. it’s where I embarked on the journey of becoming a professional actor 10 years ago. LA, for all its faults, is the city where I’ve been able to hone my craft, make immersive theatre with @convention1944, join @actorsequity & look to a future that involves jumping between Hollywood & Broadway = the bicoastal dream 🎠

I have to say that the biggest gift my uncle left me with was his presence. he was always so present in every interaction, always game for an adventure, always positive, always adventurous 🥾

he truly saw me & that was another great gift. as a natural performer with a flair for the dramatic, I have a hard time allowing myself to be seen– fully– without artifice. I can do it when I’m acting & saying the words someone else wrote, but real life feels way more vulnerable. he saw me, though. there was no hiding. I love that & I’ll miss that.

I’m not sure where he is now, but I trust that he is at peace, that his spirit is free & that his family down here will feel his presence in small moments. it was, after all, his greatest gift & he always gave it freely.

descansa en paz, tío Héctor. te quiero siempre 🕊️ taken in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, México by @bereodri

“I don’t chase. I attract.” 💖 you will find that on the cheesiest poster at your local thrift store. to me, embracing that as truth has proven to be quite the challenge, but a recent experience opened my eyes to the fact that I cannot continue down the same old path, expecting different results.

it’s taken me years to learn that chasing, forcing, manipulating, begging & insisting will only lead to heartbreak, disappointment & resentment. often, it will also lead to chasing away that which you wanted the most. it seems simple & obvious, but it has been one of the biggest lessons (that I have resisted) ever since I was a teen ❤️‍🩹

with the help & guidance of @the_living_relationship @paucalderonespiritual, amongst other amazing mentors, I am learning a different way of being & I cannot wait for ✨attracting✨ to come as naturally as breathing 🧘🏻‍♀️

P.S. the 2nd slide is my new way of expressing myself online: taking quotes I like & adding my own real backgrounds (from photos I took. NOT AI generated 🚫). this particular one is from the loveliest peonies 💐 that my sister got me from @enchantedflowercompany, a latina-owned mother/daughter brand 🫶🏼 please consider supporting them if you’re in the SD area!

P.P.S. you can find my digital art projects in my highlights under 💌’s. I hope these quotes help you as much as they’ve helped me 📝 by @bereodri

Te quiero tanto, tanto 🩵 taken in Universidad de las Américas Puebla by @bereodri

These two. My heart and my soul, my sister & my mom. I am the luckiest. Thank you, universe, for blessing me twice with these women who lift me up when I’m down & bring me down to earth when my ego gets the better of me 🪐

Loving an artist is a challenge that neither one of them asked for, and yet they make it look so easy. My scientist sister & my therapist mom = the best women I know ♾️

Wishing everyone reading this as much luck & as many blessings as I’ve been dealt by having these two in my life 🃏❣️ taken in Basilique du Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre by @bereodri

I wrote this when I was 17 y/o. It’s cute & it’s true. However, I can’t help but feel a deep sadness in reading point # 5 on the first list. IYKYK 🎀

I called myself pretty & then I walked it back because how dare I call my WHOLE self pretty when my body didn’t fit in with the beauty standards of the early 2000s?!

Kate Hudson in How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days was pretty. Jennifer Aniston in Friends was pretty. Mischa Barton in The OC was pretty. Rachel Bilson in The OC was also pretty. I was closer in looks to Rachel, at least in that we were both brunettes with big eyes, but our anatomies were vastly different, and how DARE I call something pretty when it went against Hollywood beauty standards?!

Just a few years ago, I had an interaction at a wedding that brought point # 5 right back into focus. A Mexican guy was making conversation with me & asked why I was single. It was a friendly, respectful interaction. His wife was nearby & at no point did I feel like he was hitting on me.

As an artist & child of therapists, I live for these kinds of conversations, but it was cocktail hour & I wanted to keep it light, so I answered as best I could without going into my existential childhood trauma & dramatic theories 🙃

I have a good grasp on humor in the 3 languages I speak (a little less in French due to lack of practice, of course), but this was an interaction in Spanish & I was able to flip the switch & make him laugh.

At the time, being single & attending back-to-back weddings of close friends in the South of France shone a stark bright light on my life choices. I wished to meet someone, anyone, to help me enjoy myself at either of those weddings. Another band-aid to numb the pain 🩹

It didn’t happen & I’m glad it didn’t. I desperately needed to be alone & I continue to be on that path of self-exploration, going within to heal all of the wounds that I’ve suppressed & avoided since I was a teen.

Back to the conversation at hand, I made him laugh. I always make them laugh 😉

He loved it & he intended to repay the favor by complimenting me:
🇲🇽🗣️ “Estás bonita de la cara” he said.
(🇺🇸🗣️ “You have a pretty face.”)
