🏨 Is this hotel actually worth the price?
📍 Are there hidden gems that most tourists miss?
🍽️ Where are the local restaurants instead of the overpriced tourist traps?
💰 How can we get the best experience without spending more than we need to?

My goal isn’t just to book a trip—it’s to make sure every dollar is working toward an unforgettable experience.

For me, it starts long before that.

I’ve now been to 69 countries, so more often than not, I’m planning trips to places I’ve actually experienced myself. That means I can recommend the neighborhoods I’d stay in again, the experiences that are genuinely worth the money, and the things I’d skip altogether.

But what really sets me apart isn’t just the passport stamps.

One of the hardest parts of being a travel advisor is helping clients match their dream trip with a realistic budget.

A recent client wanted to stay in an overwater bungalow—but after pricing it out, their entire trip budget would have covered just one night. 😅

Overwater bungalows are incredible, but they’re also one of the most expensive hotel experiences in the world. In destinations like the Maldives or Bora Bora, it’s not unusual for rates to start around $800–$1,500+ per night, with luxury resorts costing several thousand dollars per night.

Here are a few ways to make the dream more attainable:
✨ Use hotel points or credit card rewards. This is one of the best ways to experience an overwater bungalow without paying the full cash rate.
✨ Split your stay. Spend 2–3 nights in an overwater bungalow and the rest in a beach villa or standard room.
✨ Consider more affordable destinations. Some of the best-value overwater bungalows can be found in:
📍 Malaysia
📍 Indonesia
📍 Belize
📍 Panama
📍 The Philippines

The goal isn’t to say “no” to your dream vacation—it’s to find the smartest way to make it happen without blowing your entire travel budget.

Finding a cheap flight is only half the equation.

I see this all the time: someone scores a $400 flight and assumes they’ve planned a budget-friendly vacation… only to realize the hotels are $700+ per night.

Your accommodations are often the biggest expense of your trip, and they’re what can turn a $4,000 vacation into a $10,000+ vacation.

Here are a few ways to keep your lodging costs in check:
🏨 Stay just outside the main tourist area (often a 10–20 minute ride can save hundreds per night).
📅 Travel during shoulder season when hotel rates drop significantly.
👯 Split larger villas or vacation rentals with friends or family.
⭐ Decide what matters most—is a luxury resort worth it, or would you rather spend that money on experiences?
🎁 Look for perks like complimentary breakfast, resort credits, or free airport transfers that add value beyond the nightly rate.

The biggest mistake I see? People budgeting for the flight but not researching hotel prices before choosing a destination.

As a travel advisor, I always price out the entire trip—not just the airfare—so my clients know what to expect before they book.

The best time to visit a destination isn’t always when everyone else is going.

Traveling during shoulder season (the weeks just before or after peak season) can mean cheaper flights, lower hotel rates, fewer crowds, shorter lines, and an overall better experience.

Here are a few examples:
☀️ Greece: Skip July & August. Visit in May, early June, or September.
🌸 Japan: Instead of cherry blossom season, consider late May or November.
🏖️ Bali: Trade the busy summer months for May, June, or September.
🇮🇹 Italy: Avoid August when prices soar and many locals go on holiday. Try April, May, late September, or October instead.
🌴 Caribbean: Early December or late April/May often offers great weather with fewer crowds than winter peak season.

There are exceptions—some destinations are absolutely worth visiting during high season because of festivals, wildlife migrations, or unique seasonal experiences. But if your priority is stretching your budget and avoiding the crowds, timing your trip can make just as much of a difference as choosing the destination itself.
