𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟳?

At Calgary Economic Development’s sold-out 2027 Economic Outlook, 2,000+ leaders came together to talk about what’s next for Calgary and Alberta.

So I took the question into the room.

From talent and innovation to investment, entrepreneurship, community and collaboration, the answers made one thing pretty clear: there is a lot to look forward to in our Blue Sky City!

STOP NETWORKING! Start learning how to share space☕️✨ my quick deep dive...

September has officially been our best month yet, and it kicked off with the milestone of Sept 6, 2026, which I will never forget! To celebrate the Ethiopian and Eritrean New Year in Sept, I launched a culturally immersive, experiential coffee ceremony concept called Mekses: Coffee, Culture & Conversation, an evening made possible through an incredible partnership with the brilliant @alcoveartscentre.

While preparing for this launch, I realized that in order to truly understand community, we don’t need to reinvent the wheel. Instead, I intentionally leaned into the ancestral practices of the Horn of Africa, where collective care of strangers has been perfectly mastered for centuries.

While we treat "community" like a business buzzword, the genuine blueprint for building it lived entirely within the thoughtful mechanics of our traditional coffee ceremony. The difference between attending and event and cultivating a community is that true community is born the exact moment we choose to be in service of one another. Every step of this ritual is a masterclass in mutual care, from the slow, aromatic roasting of the beans for each guest, to passing the final cup, sharing food, and to even culturally helping guests wash their hands.😆

In our culture, this radical hospitality is so pronounced that it can feel beautifully jarring to a first-timer, acting as the exact thread that transforms a room of strangers into a tight-knit village.

Looking around that crowded room, I felt an overwhelming wave of gratitude for a career built in perfect alignment with my unabashed passion for raw human connection. My goal as a community engager will never be to just pack a room, but rather it will always be to honor people through servitude. Thank you to everyone who stepped into something beautifully unfamiliar, chose community over networking, and shared a space in servitude of each other. 💛

My forever Valentine♥️SOS 3:4 To God be the glory! by @beth_is_blessed

#FBF to my first Calgary Black Chambers Gala a couple years ago with D’Andre representing Calgary Economic Development — and what a night it was!

Back then, I hardly knew anyone in Calgary’s Black professional scene. Now, just a couple years later, I’m so grateful that many of the folks I once looked up to from afar are now peers I get to work and grow alongside.

Tonight I’ll be attending my second gala — and I’m beyond excited to celebrate the Black excellence driving impact in our city and beyond! Huge thanks to CED for the powerful rooms you continue to put me in.

Here’s to growth, community, and showing up — together. Cannot wait for tonight’s CBC gala!

✨ Work Anniversary Milestone! (LinkedIn saw it first)

Wow, over 2 YEARS since stepping into my very first non-profit role with Calgary Economic Development’s TalentED YYC. This project truly OPENED THE WORLD for this prairie girl. It’s been an incredible journey: working with start-ups, SMBs, post-secondary institutions, employer engagement, building strong cross-sector relationships, business resource development, leading workshops, hosting panels, and ultimately making the biggest leap of all — transitioning to a career in marketing and joining a new team. Every moment of the past two years has been transformative!

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲!

My future has never felt brighter, and I owe so much of that to everything D’Andre has poured into me over these last couple of years. Being part of the TalentED YYC project has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. Seeing the impact, feeling the purpose, and collaborating with some of the most passionate, and brilliant people nationally — it’s been truly unimaginable.

To the entire TalentED YYC dream team — you are all absolute rockstars. Thank you for teaching me, and showing me what it means to truly care about the work you do. You’ve taught me what it means to be driven by a mission and to work beyond just a bottom line (also shoutout to CRUSHING our KPIs!). Every brainstorming session, every pivot, every late night and win — I’ve learned so much from each of you, and it’s been a joy along the way!

Finally, a huge thank you to my amazing friends and colleagues at Calgary Economic Development. Your support, partnership, and vision have been absolutely instrumental these last couple of years. Thank you for everything you do to help this city thrive, and for allowing me to be a small part of it.
