About Beth Samuels

I’m Beth Samuels, a disabled creative. A professionally trained actor, who enjoys being involved in TV and film projects as well as theatre work. Aside from this I enjoy wheelchair sports including professionally dancing across the UK. I’m a proud northerner and love celebrating our area.

Character Bec is passionate about making the fictional Climate Action Hub a home for everyone. But what happens if everyone turns up?

World's on Fire is a fantastic large scale show for Stockton with locally based professional actors and the newly founded World's on Fire Choir alongside The CMC (community movement chorus).

Thank you to @arc_stockton for your warmth and generosity in sharing your Freedom stories.

1) I’m Beth Samuels a northern disabled actor and para wheelchair dancer. I professionally act in TV and film as well as competing in dance competitions across the UK in para dance sport events representing Team GB.

Freedom to me is having independence and being able to do what I enjoy without limitations. I do face limitations and challenges but that’s not from me personally but the inaccessible world around me. I try to not let this stop me or get in the way, as I’m a very determined person. As both a disabled actor and wheelchair dancer I love nothing more than experiencing the feeling of freedom by embodying different characterisation and stories as well as feel emotions and rhythm through movement. Partaking in these is when I feel the most free. Para dance sport gives me the chance to connect with my body again just in a different way and serves as a creative outlet for expression, breaking down barriers to movement and offering a sense of freedom. Dance is dance whether your walking or rolling and can be enjoyed by all.

Exploring what freedom means today in the context of the end of the Second World War, ARC Stockton worked with local people through its creative engagement classes to shape new creative work. Recordings filmed across Stockton and live performances were brought together in a public event in November 2025, reflecting the town’s diverse voices. The project involved three rooted communities at ARC: Full Circle, an award-winning learning-disabled theatre company; refugees and asylum seekers; and adults taking part in ARC’s weekly creative classes, such as ukulele class.

This week marks ten years since my life changed in a way I never expected. Ten years since paralysis entered my story—but not ten years of defeat. Instead, these have been ten years of learning, fighting, rebuilding, and rising 🦽

When something life-altering happens it’s important to have a strong and positive mindset despite the challenges.
I choose determination always!

Ten years on, I stand—(not physically), but in every way that matters—taller than I ever have. I’ve learned to celebrate progress in all forms and be proud of all my accomplishments 🌟

I’ve learned that a life can be full, meaningful, and powerful even when it’s different from what you once pictured.

If there’s anything I hope others take from my journey, it’s this:
adversity does not define you—it’s your response to it that does ✨

Determination isn’t just something I talk about. It’s something I live for ❤️
