Disabled friends - I think you would have loved the character of Bec in World's on Fire, expertly played by the brilliant Beth Samuels in her first major theatre role (Beth has given many TV performances). It's an ensemble for the four lead characters, each of them challenging stereotypes, and Bec is a wheelchair user passionate about food sustainability and disability rights in environmentalism. None of the play is a lecture though. The playing of Bec is that she is funny, warm, a brilliant friend, clever and proud to be an activist looking for accessible spaces in nature and ways to share the messages of Equity and climate in creative ways. We see the character co-leading the Midnight Festival as a measure of joy. Each character has their own song in the show and Bec's is The Song of Equity. I loved writing the lyrics for this song and Beth did it complete justice - 'Everyone means Everyone' (recurring refrain) has to be true of any civil rights, social or climate justice movement. It has to be anti-ableist even before it begins due to the disproportionate exclusion experienced in every movement.

Photo Beth Samuels as Bec on stage in the wooden Climate Action Hub set expertly designed by Molly Agar (complete legend). Bec is a young white woman with ling curly hair wearing red dungarees and top, is gesturing with her hands while singing, and is seated in her wheelchair.

Ooh and if you caught it, tell us what you thought of the show so that this work has some visibility. Thank you xxx

💙 A special thank you to our incredible models and those who made the day happen, who brought Faduma Clothing’s collection to life on the runway at ISKU Fashionista in London.

Each of you brought your own personality, confidence and energy to the looks. Seeing the collection come together on the runway was such a special moment for us. ✨

We’re so grateful for your time, support and for being part of an evening celebrating fashion, culture and inclusivity.

Thank you for wearing Faduma Clothing with such confidence and making each look your own. 💙

DPM 2026 over and out! 🫡

I wanted to use today to reflect back on the past few years as a disabled artist. The one thing that links all my projects and work together is the Incredible communities that I have found through each job and opportunity.

People that accept me for who I am, truly understand my capability and potential, and who genuinely want me involved!

I'm excited to see who else I can connect with before the next disability pride month! 🧡👩🏻‍🦼‍➡️

Thank you to @arc_stockton for your warmth and generosity in sharing your Freedom stories.

1) I’m Beth Samuels a northern disabled actor and para wheelchair dancer. I professionally act in TV and film as well as competing in dance competitions across the UK in para dance sport events representing Team GB.

Freedom to me is having independence and being able to do what I enjoy without limitations. I do face limitations and challenges but that’s not from me personally but the inaccessible world around me. I try to not let this stop me or get in the way, as I’m a very determined person. As both a disabled actor and wheelchair dancer I love nothing more than experiencing the feeling of freedom by embodying different characterisation and stories as well as feel emotions and rhythm through movement. Partaking in these is when I feel the most free. Para dance sport gives me the chance to connect with my body again just in a different way and serves as a creative outlet for expression, breaking down barriers to movement and offering a sense of freedom. Dance is dance whether your walking or rolling and can be enjoyed by all.

Exploring what freedom means today in the context of the end of the Second World War, ARC Stockton worked with local people through its creative engagement classes to shape new creative work. Recordings filmed across Stockton and live performances were brought together in a public event in November 2025, reflecting the town’s diverse voices. The project involved three rooted communities at ARC: Full Circle, an award-winning learning-disabled theatre company; refugees and asylum seekers; and adults taking part in ARC’s weekly creative classes, such as ukulele class.
