You see, sometimes the hardest part of selling a home isn’t letting go of the house. It’s letting go of the life you built inside it...The home where they started that Christmas tradition 20 years ago, never imagining how much it would come to mean to their family.

The backyard where they hosted countless birthday parties, watched little ones blow out candles, and celebrated another year of growing up.

The kitchen where the kids sat at the counter doing homework while dinner was being made.

The dining room where extra chairs were squeezed around the table because there was always room for one more.

The front porch where they waved goodbye as their children drove off to college, wondering how the years had passed so quickly.

And the bedrooms that somehow went from being filled with toys and laughter to sitting a little too quiet.

After nearly 20 years in real estate, I understand that some moves come with a whole lot more emotion than others.

Welp, I never thought today would come, not this soon at least. I figured I’d have to tough it out in Maryland through at least the balance of year. But when opportunities became available to come back down to NC, I jumped at the chance immediately. Closed on my new house today and I can’t thank @bethsauerofkwone and her team for being there with me every step of the way. Truly the best in the biz!

For those who I got to spend time with up north the past two years, I’m fortunate for those moments as they were some of the only that kept me sane. For those I didn’t get the chance to spend time with, I’ll roll w/ the Constanza “I invented it’s not you it’s me; if it’s anyone it’s me.” The role I took on only afforded me so much free time to myself where I wasn’t at least on call with god knows what was waiting on the other end, and many nights I needed to be in a dark room with the lights off listening to my body and getting back what little energy I had left in me. I’m thankful for what being up there meant and what I accomplished, even if it slowly killed me inside at times. Wings and beer at O’Loughlin’s next time I pay a visit for anyone who wants to join me in mid-October when I’m up to take back whatever else I still have in Maryland.

@catdor and @adordick, thank you for all the home-cooked meals, unpaid & somewhat-supervised doggy daycare support, and rent-free nights that didn’t require a rewards program. Your love, support, and understanding cannot be quantified as it’s simply unparalleled. Ready to finally host you again for once. Unlike your place, my barstools are at the appropriate counter depth. 😊 This house will become a home and for those of you still around, or if you’re just traveling through the Piedmont Triad, Cosmo and I look forward to hosting you for day drinks, nightcaps, dreidel-offs, and everything in between.

Connie thought her in-laws were ready to downsize. Then everything changed.

If you have aging parents or in-laws, you may already know how hard these conversations can be. You bring up the house. You talk about downsizing. You try to make a plan. And then suddenly the conversation goes in a completely different direction.

That’s why I wanted to share Connie’s story.

She talks very openly about what her family went through with her in-laws, what made the process so difficult, and what she wishes they had known earlier.
