‘TRANS PEOPLE ARE AWFUL’

Reviews and stars and critical response aren’t everything and they can never encompass work fully or understand it entirely. I came to Edinburgh with very low expectations and was expecting a lot of negative responses to the show.

The show wasn’t made for the critics. The majority cis straight critics. The majority white cis male critics.

It was made for me first and foremost. It was my reaction to the current state of the world for trans people, and it encapsulates my mental state at the time I started writing it. It was me just doing something, anything to feel like it could be okay. It was me being angry and desperate. I hope anyone who’s seen the show will see that through the making of the show it became me being more hopeful and driven and grateful and empowered.

I made it for queer audiences. I made it for my friends to laugh at. I made it to be silly. I made a show I would want to see as a trans person navigating the world. I made it for young queers. The audience response has been what I have held most gratefully, most carefully, I treasure it. I’m so elated that the work resonates. That people get it.

However, I do want to acknowledge the critical response to the show. It’s been so positive and amazing and I’m bowled over honestly. It makes things EASIER. And it says something about what people want to see. What excites people. People WANT these conversations.

I’m incredibly lucky to have had this response. And it’s not everything, but it’s exciting. I feel overwhelmed by it - positively mainly of course. This response means the show can have further life. That it can reach more people.

Thank you everyone who has reviewed the show. Thank you to all judges and critics who have contributed to me getting awards. Thank you to everyone who has attended the show. Thank you to my whole team whom the show wouldn’t be possible without. I will one day process the magnitude of this August for me. But until then..

Watch this space for future plans.

Not to be earnest on main and risk making it about me, but. This year marks half of my life doing this stupid festival, and it was the stuff of Artistic Director dreams???

CPT has the privilege of supporting dozens of shows a year that end up at the fringe. Particular shout out to @carmen_collective_theatre and Gameplay, who were the first show we were a formal Associate on for Edinburgh, and who with our support made one of only a handful of shows at the fringe with integrated accessibility. Oh, and they also won one of @thestageuk Fringe Fives??? No big deal.

CPT has never produced a fringe show before. It was never the plan to. But sometimes, a piece of art comes along that you just can’t say no to. The (multi award winning 😌) critical response to TPAA has been incredible, but the audience response has been better. I believe so passionately that it’s the role of theatres like CPT to take risks and have the conversations that genuinely push discourse forwards, by saying yes to shows that challenge people (including me) through their ideas, questions, and ✨titles✨, and to then hold those shows with all the rigour, integrity, consistency and compassion we can muster so that those shows can fly.

-To Technical Manager extraudinaire @jlpichelski , for being the first person to read Ros’ application for our open call Starting Blocks residency programme, and for flagging that it could be something special
-To the Programme and Venue Manager I would crumble without, @barnsleyjean , for championing the show at interview stage, for holding the SB Residency programme with me for 12 weeks, and for tapping into Edinburgh to Beth could take 48 hours of the month off (lol)
-For the Marketing Manager of dreams, @theomoore9 , for not only taking on extra work for this show, but also taking on a bunch of my work to enable me to focus on this

Okay now… TPAA is now a MULTI-AWARD WINNING SHOW!

Over the moon to have won the Queer Performer Award at @bingefringemag awards alongside so many legends. And to be in the presence of the legendary @jo.teatro

Thank you so so much. I’m giddy I’m exhausted I’m so so grateful.

I ate a doughnut to celebrate - HOLD ME BACK

HUGE NEWS

Still in disbelief that I was selected as one of @thestageuk Fringe Five 2026. And yes I am holding an emotional support Rubik’s cube in the picture.

This show was a huge risk for me as a writer and performer and I’m so so grateful people get the work and my intentions.

‘TRANS PEOPLE ARE AWFUL’ IS OFFICIALLY AN AWARD WINNING SHOW!

I’m truly blown away to announce that we won the Leading Light Award for most Outstanding Production at the Scottish Theatre Awards supported by @thescottishartsclub

I cannot believe it and am honoured to have received the prize in the company of so many phenomenal Scottish shows at this year’s fringe.

Thank you everyone who made this possible. Here’s some pics of me, with blood still on me after running from my show today.
