An initiative to curtail bullying, GBV and other forms of violence among children and young adults in Nigeria.

POSTS STORIES REELS

Bullying, harrasment, and other negative acts are rising among Nigerian students. It may surprise you to note that the reason is not far-fetched. Many of these students are hurt, confused, angry, proud, hyper emotional, etc. Some even come from abusive homes or are economically disadvantaged. Sociological theories have proven that at least 40% of deviance is driven by these “little” psychological factors. If we don't teach our children how to handle these phases positively, why are we surprised when they take a negative turn?

Hardly anyone wakes up and decides to be rebellious; there has to be a trigger, and until we identify and address these triggers, we may keep going in circles. This is why The BetterYou Educational Foundation exists. We are taking a whole-school preventive approach to tackling deviant behavior and the risk of it. Because according to the UN, prevention is the FIRST imperative of justice. We must begin to focus on ways to PREVENT, rather than PUNISH crime and deviance. No punishment, no matter how justly served, would wake up victims like Sylvester Oromoni who was lost to a matter as "trivial" as bullying. But with the right preventive strategies, Sylvester might have still been alive today and the perpetrators would have been better members of the society.

We would be glad to have you join us as we unlock this cause.

For volunteering, donations and partnership please send us a DM or call the number on slide 1. Let's give our students a wholesome education.

Today, 6th July 2023, Better You Educational Foundation took to Gossa Primary School FCT-Abuja, where we educated the students about bullying.

Through our 25-minute sensitization, we made the students understand why bullying is bad, and how they can rise against it in their school.

Our wall posters, which highlighted key points from the lesson, were placed around the school to constantly remind the students of what was taught.

Our goal through this project is to ensure that every child has a safe learning environment, and that students exhibit positive attributes at all times.

A night tour across GRA, Port-Harcourt would reveal the number of young girls who engage in prostitution as a "side hustle" in the city. It gets worse daily, hence other female students in Port Harcourt are prone to being lured into this bizarre situation.

It is with this in mind that the Helper's Charitable Foundation organised an outreach themed "Sex and Career Education for the Girl Child", and Better You Educational Foundation was a proud partner on this project.

We reminded the students of Government Girls Secondary School, Rumueme Port-Harcourt that they can dream big, work hard, pray hard and be sure of good success.

From JSS1 to SS3, the students were beyond happy to receive us. We didn't leave without affixing our behavioral development posters in various classrooms, and also distributing inspiring stickers for their notebooks. Our financial support to the project also contributed to the over one thousand notebooks that were procured for the students.

Quality education is far broader than we often define it.

Yes, we need a more expansive curriculum.
Yes, students deserve access to diverse learning tools.
Yes, continuous teachers’ training is absolutely essential

But beyond all of this, there is a one important piece of the puzzle that we often overlook: inclusion.

Quality education must take into account the need for inclusive policies and inclusive learning environments. Students must be raised to respect, accept, and embrace one another. Because what is the value of the best teachers and world-class facilities if students still experience bullying, exclusion, and isolation?

A few weeks ago, I hosted a live session with Fatima Bello, a disability rights advocate and founder of Haske Children Foundation. In honour of the World Down Syndrome Day, we discussed the rights, realities, and everyday experiences of persons with Down syndrome. These slides capture key insights from that conversation. Swipe! 👉🏽

As we also mark Autism Awareness Month, Fatima’s words remain deeply relevant: an inclusive society is one where every human truly feels they belong. This world was made for us, so why should we make some people feel like outcasts?

So like the shirt says, this is a call for true Quality education. If you’re a parent, you have a role to play more than you know. Don’t just leave your child’s upbringing to chance. Raise them to be kind, supportive and respectful.

You can join @betteryou_ng and @haskechildrensfoundation by volunteering, donating or partnering with us. The shirts are also available in various designs on @betteryou_ng. Profits on each sale are put back into our educational projects and campaigns! by @betteryou_ng

Every child deserves to be seen, valued, and protected. 💛💜

In commemoration of World Down Syndrome Day, Better You Educational Foundation is hosting a Live session on Protecting the Rights of Children with Down Syndrome. We’ll be conversing with the incredible Fatima Bello, Founder of @haskechildrensfoundation an NGO that strengthens access to quality healthcare for children with disabilities, supports their education, and sensitizes communities on inclusive practices.

This conversation is for parents, educators, advocates, and anyone passionate about building a more inclusive society.

Project Teen 2025!

A moment of encounter, enlightenment, and transformation!

We grateful for the success of the first edition of Project Teen, and to the convening organisation, the International Community of Minstrels, for the opportunity to partner on this impactful initiative.

Better You Educational Foundation spoke to over 200 teenagers in attendance on IDENTITY; grooming them to resist peer pressure, and to stay rooted in Christ. We also distributed exercise books that held Affirmations from the lesson.

As a follow-up strategy, we would be launching the mentorship phase of the project, where students are groomed one-on-one for a couple of months.

A BIG thank you to our wonderful donors and volunteers for continuing to support our mission! This wouldn't be possible without YOU. by @betteryou_ng
