Welcome!

I've been a hobbyist photographer for quite some time. Not long after I started I discovered the practice of adding texture to images to create something new. Last year, I created a texture from blending a few different images together and modifying the result in adobe Photoshop.
After adding the texture to one of my images and adjusting the curves and levels, I found I really liked the look that was achieved and started creating more. While my styles have fluctuated through the years, I feel like I had finally found a more consistent look that I wanted to continue to create. I decided to come up with the name Betweenworlds; navigating between and merging the worlds of photography and personally crafted texture to achieve a consistent and individualized aesthetic.

Thank you!

A glimpse into my process...

Original photography blended with a personally crafted texture. Curves, color, brightness and contrast modified in Adobe Photoshop to achieve the desired look.
Some pieces are combined with traditional paint; they are presented on canvas paper and stretched over wooden frames. Acrylic and/or ink is then applied to select areas to give them a real textile feel and a bit more character. I've had a lot of fun with this series.

"Evolving"

A visual exploration of the Badlands. This piece layers my own photography with custom-created, tactile textures and photographed acrylic marks. The fusion of these elements creates a profound sense of natural erosion, capturing the constant shifts that result in the erosion and evolution of landscapes.

It is presented on canvas paper stretched over 1.5" wooden frame. A layer of varnish is applied in order to offer maximum protection, longevity and helps bring out the textural elements. #mixedmediaphotography #abstractphotograpy #abstractmixedmedia #thefyxx #saatchiart by @betweenworlds.mixedmedia

New Blog Post: The Emotional and Connective Core of Art

Prologue
I don't care about getting recognition as much as I care about connecting with others through my work.

Does that sound familiar? If it does, you might recognize the mindset I'm talking about: while it's nice to be acknowledged for what we create, the real reward comes from the connections our work makes possible - whether through poetry, an article, a discussion post, or a piece of artwork.

Beyond knowing that I value connection, I've come to recognize something else about myself. Like most artists, while I enjoy compliments and recognition for my work, it doesn't mean nearly as much if I don't believe in the work myself. And that's true for any compliment I receive. If you've also struggled with self-esteem and confidence, only to find a clearer, healthier path through art, then you might understand what I'm about to say next...
