Week 6 of 16 training for the @spinerace ⛰️

A rather delightful weekend involving two long shuffles along the Pennine Way, a brilliant Altus event, some lovely walks with the King, good coffee, croissants, cheese and (unfortunately) a few house chores! 😆 The autumn vistas were absolutely showing off this weekend and I’m very much here for it. 🍂

A lovely midweek meal with the family to celebrate Dad’s 80th birthday, too. If I’m as all there as he is when I reach 80, I’ll be a very happy lady! ❤️

I’ve been throwing the weighted vest on for some of my dog walks, gradually building up the time spent moving with extra weight. With weekend mileage starting to creep up, I’m finding it harder to squeeze in as many gym sessions as I’d like, so the strength training is definitely taking a bit of a back seat. Needs must, and I’m trying to find other ways to keep the work ticking over.

A deload week next week to absorb all the miles, let the body catch up and get ready to build again over the following weeks. It’s all about being sensible now rather than just piling on the miles for the sake of it!

One of the things that inspired me most this week was a young lady who turned up to @altusrunning with her little one in the running buggy. She’d never run with it before and just threw herself straight into a 6k! 🛺 I take inspiration from all sorts of places, and I thought she was brilliant. Pushing one of those things and running is no easy feat (I once did half a mile with it and it was bloody weird only being able to use your legs to power you along! 😂). A good reminder that inspiration doesn’t just come from the people running the biggest miles or the fastest times.

All in all, another good week in the bag. And, thankfully, I think my foot has survived last week’s Pyrex dish incident. 🙈

Six weeks in, the miles are stacking up and the Spine obsession is well and truly underway! (Not that it ever really went away) 🤓⛰️

Happy 80th Birthday to the coolest Dad around! The dude, also know as Captain Kev and once upon a time the Carp King of the North!

I asked my Dad tonight if you could do his 80 years again what would he do differently and he said nothing, because he’s lucky to have what he’s got. A happy, healthy, loving family 🫶🏻

Happy Birthday Pops, thanks for teaching me the importance of hard work, having good morals, always standing up for what you believe in and doing what makes you happy in life. 🤍 by @bevclifford

Meet the field: Bev Clifford.

Bev is a familiar face on the start line at many ultra races in the UK, and is now stepping up to the challenge of the Wrath.

Bev’s story is one of resilience and determination. After a heartbreaking DNF at the 2025 Winter Spine Race, Bev returned to the Pennine Way later that same year for the Summer Spine, finishing as 7th woman.

She’s not done with the Spine yet though. In addition to being on the start line for the inaugural Wrath in May, Bev will also be taking part in the Winter Spine in January 2027, determined to put that DNF behind her.

Bev balances her training with full-time work and life as a dog mum. She’s also given back to the Spine community, volunteering at the 2026 Summer Spine.

Bev takes on the full 236-mile Wrath in May 2027.

A bloody good week of Pennine Way miles, coffee, carbs and the usual dose of Bev-style clumsiness! 😂
Managed to get some miles in on the Pennine Way before the thick of Storm Boleo hit. Great Shunner Fell is always a good trot out and has a bit of everything… bogs, slabs and some rocky road sections to keep things interesting! But the sunrise absolutely made my week. There’s something pretty special about being out on the hills first thing in the morning. 🌄

A trip to a new coffee and cake haunt with the bestie, too. Dangerously good coffee and exceptionally good cake! ☕️🍰

Long runs fuelled by all the carbs (as they should be). I still struggle to get enough gels and real food down me on longer runs, so I’m back to making use of carb mix to get the fuel in without having to force-feed myself.

On a slightly more personal note, I’ve probably left it a bit later than I should have, but this week I had a consultation with a hormone specialist and officially started my HRT journey.

Over the last 18 months, I’ve slowly ticked off what feels like 90% of the perimenopause symptom going, and the last nine months have properly kicked my arse. Hoping I’ll start to notice some improvements over the next month or so. 🤞Ladies of a certain age, if you’re starting to notice symptoms, don’t just put up with them or assume it’s something you have to live with. Speak to someone who can help. I wish I’d done it sooner!

And finally… ending the week with another fall (thanks to the wind and a pot hole) and smashing a stack of Pyrex dishes all over my foot wasn’t exactly ideal. 🤦‍♀️😂 Anything to become as robust as possible for the Pennine Way eh! by @bevclifford

My favourite boy in the whole wide world and my second favourite boy in the whole wide world 🌍 💙 🐺 There is nothing like the love of a dog, or the attitude and sass of a husky! Kaizer’s not great with other dogs, but Blue’s his best mate and they have a bond that we as humans will never understand.

Life is better with dogs 🐾

New Club partnership for a bigger impact… 🤝✨

We’re joining forces with @sailors_childrens_society for a year-long partnership, helping our runners take on new challenges + raise vital funds for local seafaring families in crisis.

From 10kms, trail runs + half marathons, through to marathons + other sought-after race places, we have plenty of opportunities to get involved over the next 12 months - with priority access for our community + very achievable fundraising targets.

A select few runners from our community are already signed up with priority access to the London Landmarks Half Marathon 2027… with other major regional, national + even international races on our radar.

Every pound raised will contribute to our year-long Club fundraising total, bringing our individual challenges together to support something much bigger than a single run or race.

For more details, head to the link in our bio to read the full story or DM us for available races + fundraising targets.

A massive thank you to @sailors_childrens_society for believing in what we’re working to build…

✌️✨

Celebrating the birth month of @gillbailey with a spa day at @nu.health_ . A day of chilling, recovering (highly recommend the hyperbaric chamber!), and getting thoroughly pampered with full-body and facial massages. Followed by M&S picky bits for tea, obviously. 😂

Our birthday celebrations look slightly different 20+ years into our friendship, but honestly, I’m very much here for it! ❤️

Eased back into training after Lakes in a Day last weekend, keeping things nice and easy with a few gentle miles and a little trip to the Pennine Way on Sunday. Although I felt great during the race and have bounced back feeling absolutely fine, I know better than to underestimate how long it takes to recover from 50+ miles in the mountains! So, one more week of taking it easy and letting the body fully recover before getting stuck back into those long days out on the hills every weekend. ⛰️

Hanging on to the sunshine and cold coffees, back in my food-prep groove, had a trip to @rowleyproduce for some of the good stuff 🥩 and the local @thesugarshed2026 has started doing protein treats! I fear this could become a problem . 😂🍪

And finally… it’s about time I started working out which trainers I’ll be wearing for the Spine and just how many new pairs of gloves and waterproof socks I actually need.

The weighted vest is back out of hibernation, the Excel spreadsheet is favourited, and my obsession with the Pennine Way and the Spine Race is about to monopolise my life for the next three months. 🤓😂

Spine service has resumed! 🥶 🗺️ 🧭 ⛰️ by @bevclifford

A bloody tip-top week of life! ❤️

A couple of days in the Lake District at the weekend for the Lakes in a Day race, staying in the most fabulous converted 16th-century byre (a barn attached to a house), just on the edge of the Lake District National Park, with views of the Pennines from the top windows. There aren’t many places I’d rush back to, but this is definitely one of them. Dream retirement house for sure! 🏡

It was my bestie @gillbailey birthday, so we squeezed in a little coffee catch-up before the proper celebrations this weekend. ☕️🥳

Kaizer had a lovely stay at the grandparents’ and has now requested an upgrade to his garden shelter. Apparently, he wants a castle for Christmas! 😂🏰

Race week meant lots of carbs, including plenty of oats (it is porridge season, after all!). And it’s officially crumble season, too. 🍂🥣

A massive shout-out to my mucker @errol_1988 for making a last-minute trip up to the Lakes to cheer me on and ferry me around. An absolute gem, and I’m bloody blessed to have such good people in my life. ❤️

All in all, a bloody good week of training for the Spine, and Lakes in a Day was a huge confidence boost after all the ups and downs of 2026 so far.

A couple of easy weeks to recover, then it’s time to become a Spine geek again and let it monopolise my life until January! 🤓😂 by @bevclifford

Lakes in a Day - A race that’s been on my to do list for a decade and was worth the wait! An epic route that takes you from the top of the Lake District National Park to the bottom and takes in some of the best peaks and fells, on on a clear day like yesterday - gives breathtaking views of the Lakes 🏔️

I’ve lost count of the number of ultra races I’ve ran (but I quickly got Copilot to count up on my training log and apparently it’s 44 😜) but some races mean more than others, and this one meant a lot. After starting the year not running after two herniated discs in my back and a labral tear in my hip, I spent the first six months of the year building back up from 0 to do Lakeland 100 in July, only to trip and smash my knee open and have to be sewn back together 🙈 So to stand on the start line yesterday I was beyond grateful and happy to be back doing the thing that fills up my cup.

A reminder that life has its ups and downs we can hit rock bottom and always climb back up. Just got to restless in patience and never loosing sight of where your aiming to go. 💪🏻

Tapering down for Lakes in a Day next weekend, so mostly easy running and, of course, weekly track session with the @altusrunning x @strng__official crew. I don’t want to jinx anything, but my back and body are the best and most mobile they’ve felt in a very long time. Just got to keep on top of everything 🤪

Got my hair spruced up and finally got my nails done after about 6 weeks, helping me feel a little less bedraggled after some head-banging work weeks

I had my Mum & Dad round for tea to celebrate Grandparents Day on Sunday (no, Kaizer didn’t help with the cooking, but he did enjoy some of the tomahawk! 🥩

Plenty of gym sessions, all strength and prehab/rehab focused, to make sure my old body is as strong as possible building up to the Spine.

I did my food shop at M&S as a special treat, which is just dangerous! 🍪 🐷 by @bevclifford

Happy Birthday to my wonderfully kind, caring, kick ass, best friend @gillbailey 🥳

Another year older, wiser, funnier but with less wrinkles 😉

Have a fabulous day 🎂 Love you millions x by @bevclifford
