BevFluence® Launches TERROIR: A First-of-Its-Kind Campaign to Build Real Passion for the World’s Most Compelling Beverage Categories
.
TERROIR is a different calculation entirely.
.
We built TERROIR out of seven intriguing categories that we feel based on the data, current attitudes, and future outlook will lead the growth into 2027: Touriga Nacional and Portuguese varietals, Emerging spirits, Riesling, Rum, Obscure, Italian varietals, and Rye. Each category represents a space where producers are innovating, professionals are seeking deeper knowledge, and consumers are increasingly open to exploration. Together, they form a cross‑section of grapes, regions, and spirits that are historically rich yet commercially underleveraged — categories that reward education, storytelling, and hands‑on engagement.
.
By pairing a coordinated online-media program with immersive Speakeasy events with a dedicated Content House, TERROIR ensures that these wines and spirits are not only tasted but contextualized, photographed, discussed, and incorporated into the creative processes of industry professionals who shape market perception.
.
Registration is open now through October 31, 2027. Early Bird pricing closes January 31, 2027.

This Distillery Named Its Rye After the Cocktail It’s Built For - BevFluence Terroir Campaign: “R” is for Rye
.
(link in the header)
.
Excerpt: Tuthilltown Distillery, in Gardiner, New York, bottles its rye as Hudson Manhattan Rye — a name that states its intended use directly rather than leaving it to bartenders to figure out through trial and error the way most whiskey brands force drinkers to guess at cocktail applications from tasting notes alone. That naming decision is itself a small but telling production philosophy: rather than positioning the whiskey as an all-purpose sipper first and a mixing ingredient second, Tuthilltown built the brand identity around one specific, named application.
.
Tuthilltown operates as a genuine Hudson Valley farm distillery, drawing on the region’s agricultural identity in a way that connects the whiskey directly to the surrounding land rather than treating New York as an incidental production location chosen for tax or logistics reasons. That farm-distillery model, common across small-scale American whiskey producers over the past two decades, gives Tuthilltown’s rye a specific regional character tied to Hudson Valley grain sourcing and climate.
.
Widow Jane, in Brooklyn, works the same state’s rye identity from a completely different angle — an urban craft distillery angle rather than a rural farm-distillery one — with its Lucky Thirteen Rye. That urban-versus-rural split gives New York two genuinely distinct rye identities under one state’s roster: Tuthilltown’s Hudson Valley farm character on one side, Widow Jane’s Brooklyn urban craft positioning on the other, both operating within driving distance of each other but building from entirely different production and branding philosophies.
.
This window closes October 31, 2027. What’s happening in New York State won’t wait for the next cycle. Be in it —

WineCompass Blog => The Essence of the Olive: A Tuscan Expression From Carapelli
.
(link in the header)
.
Excerpt: Tuscany’s olive‑growing tradition is defined by small groves, hillside microclimates, and cultivars adapted to cooler winters. The Chianti zone surrounding Tavarnelle Val di Pesa is known for producing medium‑to‑robust oils with green fruit aromatics and pronounced pungency—traits shaped by early harvest timing and the region’s mix of traditional Tuscan varieties. While Carapelli sources broadly for some of its lines, its historical association with Tuscan production and its long emphasis on cold extraction reflect regional traditions that prioritize freshness, low oxidation, and preservation of volatile compounds. Tuscany’s olive oil culture also values authenticity in presentation, which helps explain the company’s early leadership in bottled EVOO and later interest in raw, unfiltered styles.
.
Carapelli’s Unfiltered Extra Virgin Olive Oil, introduced as part of the brand’s innovation in "raw oils" , is described as a dense, cloudy oil resembling fresh mill oil, retaining suspended olive fruit particles that contribute to texture and flavor. This product follows the company’s earlier milestone, Le Macine, the first unfiltered EVOO bottled for the Italian market. The Unfiltered shows abundant aromatic activity due to retained solids and has a late arriving bitterness that starts deep within the throat and gradually rises. This reflects the high phenolic composition of the olive oil and is muted when adding a little lemon or lime juice.

BevFluence TERROIR Campaign - "I" is for Italian Varietals: Puglia
.
Puglia, the sun-drenched region that forms the heel of Italy's boot, is home to a diverse wine culture shaped by warm Mediterranean conditions, coastal influences, and a wealth of indigenous grape varieties. Much of the region's identity is found in Salento, the southern peninsula between the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, where wineries such as Cantele, Conti Zecca, and Tenute Rubino have helped highlight the distinct character of local vineyards and native grapes.
.
Located in Guagnano, Cantele is closely associated with Negroamaro, one of Puglia's defining red varieties. The grape produces deeply colored wines with notes of black cherry, plum, Mediterranean herbs, and a subtle earthy character. Cantele has been instrumental in presenting Negroamaro both as a varietal wine and in traditional regional blends, while also working with grapes such as Primitivo and Malvasia Bianca.
.
In nearby Leverano, Conti Zecca farms vineyards that extend into Veglie and Salice Salentino, areas recognized for their suitability to native southern Italian varieties. Negroamaro remains at the center of the estate's winemaking, complemented by Primitivo, a grape known for its ripe blackberry fruit, richness, and structure. The winery also cultivates Malvasia Nera, Fiano, Vermentino, and Susumaniello, demonstrating the broad diversity found across the Salento landscape.
.
Further north in the Brindisi area, Tenute Rubino has become one of the leading advocates for Susumaniello, an indigenous grape that nearly disappeared from the region. Working extensively with vineyards near the Adriatic coast, the winery has helped showcase Susumaniello's potential for producing wines with dark berry flavors, spice, freshness, and vibrant acidity. Tenute Rubino also works with Negroamaro, including in wines such as Jaddico, where the two varieties are blended to express the character of the Brindisi terroir.

TERROIR Tuesday: E is for Emerging
.
‘Emerging’ in the TERROIR campaign is deliberately broad by design. It captures the entire frontier of beverage culture — everything that doesn’t fit neatly into a traditional wine or spirits category but represents the future of the back bar and the wine list. These are unexplored opportunities in today’s beverage landscape — a space where curious bartenders, sommeliers, and consumers are actively searching for something new, distinctive, and culturally grounded. This includes: Mezcal and rare agave spirits (Sotol, Raicilla, Bacanora), Cachaça, Pisco, Soju, Baijiu, Arrack, Clairin, Aquavit, Rakija and other Central and Eastern European brandies, plus the rapidly growing category of functional/adaptogenic non-alcoholic spirits and alternatives.
.
For bartenders and sommeliers, Emerging Spirits offer creative range — new acids, textures, aromatics, and cultural narratives that expand what a cocktail or pairing can be. For buyers and media, they signal where the market is moving. TERROIR positions this category as a frontier worth understanding, giving producers a platform and professionals a structured way to explore, taste, and translate these spirits into menus and stories.

Sicily’s Only DOCG Comes from Blending Two Grapes That Don’t Grow in the Same Kind of Soil
.
(link in the header)
.
Excerpt: Sicily spent decades known for bulk production and its comeback runs almost entirely through one still-active volcano. On Etna’s northern and eastern slopes, above 1,000 meters elevation, decomposed basaltic lava rock and volcanic ash produce Nerello Mascalese wines pale enough in color and high enough in acid that serious tasters reach for Pinot Noir and Nebbiolo comparisons — not because Nerello Mascalese is derivative of either, but because volcanic soil at that elevation produces the same kind of structural tension those grapes are known for.
.
Carricante, Etna Bianco’s dominant white variety, grows on the same volcanic ground and yields dry, high-acid whites with white fruit, lime, and a wet-stone salinity that reads like a direct transcript of the soil underneath it. Both grapes depend entirely on Etna’s elevation and geology — take either one off the mountain and the wine stops tasting like Etna.
.
The island’s other signature region works from the opposite climate entirely. In the warmer south, around Noto and Avola, Nero d’Avola thrives in calcareous clay, producing plush red fruit, plum, and sweet spice — riper and rounder than anything Etna’s cooler volcanic slopes could produce. In Vittoria, producers blend that same Nero d’Avola with Frappato, a grape that contributes bright floral aromatics and fresh red berry character, to make Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG — Sicily’s only DOCG-level appellation, and the only wine on the island built from a mandatory two-grape blend rather than a single variety.
.
That’s the actual argument for Sicily as a category: one island, two climates, two soil chemistries, and the region’s highest legal classification reserved specifically for the wine that blends grapes from opposite ends of that range rather than the wine that isolates just one.
.
This window closes October 31, 2027. What’s happening in Sicily won’t wait for the next cycle. Be in it — bevfluence.com/terroir. #bevfluenceterroir #underthebevfluence

What can brands expect with their entries in the BevFluence TERROIR campaign?
,
One popular feature is the Unusual Pairings videos - with this example after our Baltimore Speakeasy of Louisiana Crunch Cake and Various Spirits.
.
The Lyon White Rum and Amrut Old Port Rum fit easily within the Rum category and the Rosie Cheeks Distillery Peach Cobbler Moonshine fits within the Emerging Spirits category.
.
We built TERROIR out of seven intriguing categories that we feel based on the data, current attitudes, and future outlook will lead the growth into 2027: Touriga Nacional and Portuguese varietals, Emerging spirits, Riesling, Rum, Obscure, Italian varietals, and Rye. .
TERROIR captures Rum at its greatest inflection point. Producers who enter this campaign gain access to the exact audience — bartenders can use Rum to expand cocktail programs with styles that introduce new acids, aromatics, and textures; media and educators gain access to production stories that resonate with audiences seeking authenticity; and buyers can build value‑driven lists that differentiate their programs and portfolios.

What do we do at a BevFluence Speakeasy?
.
For one, we visit craft beverage establishments within the local community as in this Wolf Point Distilling visit during the Chicago BevFluence Speakeasy.
.
For 2027 we are looking to return to Chicago with additional events planned for Boise, Pennsylvania, Texas, and the SF Bay Area.
.
This Wolf Point Rye Whiskey is also well suited for the BevFluence TERROIR campaign where Rye is a major category.
.
Rye represents one of the most historically grounded yet still under‑explored opportunities in the spirits world. It is the original cocktail whiskey — the base of the Manhattan, Sazerac, and countless pre‑Prohibition classics — but its modern resurgence is driven by factors far more interesting than nostalgia. Rye is becoming a terroir‑driven spirit in a way American whiskey hasn’t seen before: producers are reviving heirloom grains like Rosen, Abruzzi, and Danko; farmers are experimenting with single‑field and single‑varietal plantings; and distillers are exploring regional styles that highlight grain character rather than barrel dominance.
.
Thus today’s Rye landscape is extraordinarily diverse: from the 95%-rye high-rectified Indiana-sourced products that built modern cocktail bars to the single-estate heritage Monongahela style of Pennsylvania, from many producers’ farm-to-bottle programs to Canada’s underappreciated century-old Rye traditions (Lot 40, Alberta Premium). TERROIR captures this full spectrum — and gives Rye producers a platform to educate craft beverage professionals. Bartenders can use grain‑specific ryes to build cocktails with clearer structure and more intentional flavor design; educators and media gain access to production stories that resonate with audiences seeking authenticity and agricultural connection; and buyers can differentiate their whiskey programs with bottlings that offer both value and narrative depth.

TERROIR Tuesday: T is for Touriga
.
Portugal produces some of the world’s most distinctive wines from indigenous varieties found nowhere else on earth. Touriga Nacional — the backbone of Port and increasingly the star of dry Douro reds — delivers extraordinary depth, violet aromatics, and aging potential that rivals the finest Cabernets or Nebbiolos at a fraction of the price. Alentejo, Dão, and Bairrada add further intrigue with their own indigenous grapes and terroir-driven styles. Portugal’s broader family of indigenous varietals represent one of the most compelling intersections of heritage, sustainability, and value in the global wine landscape.
.
Portugal has become a quiet leader in dry‑farming and low‑input viticulture, practices that increasingly influence how buyers, sommeliers, and media evaluate long‑term category relevance. These methods aren’t marketing claims — they are structural realities of Portuguese farming where steep terrain and limited water access have shaped viticultural discipline for generations. The result is wines that express place with clarity and resilience. At the same time, Portuguese varietals deliver an unusually strong value‑to‑quality ratio, making them ideal for by‑the‑glass programs where operators need character, consistency, and affordability in equal measure. Touriga Nacional, Baga, Encruzado, and dozens of lesser‑known grapes offer depth, aromatics, and aging potential that outperform their price tiers, giving beverage professionals a category that is both commercially practical and creatively rewarding. TERROIR captures this momentum by building bartender, media, and sommelier champions from scratch — people who will pour, recommend, and talk about these wines for years to come.

California’s Grenache Blanc Has a Founding Document
.
(link in the header)
.
California’s Grenache Blanc didn’t happen by accident. In the late 1980s, Tablas Creek Vineyard imported the cuttings directly from Château de Beaucastel in the Southern Rhône and planted them in Paso Robles — a documented transplant with an actual paper trail, not a case of an American producer independently discovering a European grape and reverse-engineering the style.

That documentation matters because it changes how the wine gets talked about. Grenache Blanc in California isn’t a New World interpretation guessing at what the Rhône original might taste like — it’s genetically the same plant material, grown on Paso Robles’ limestone-heavy Westside soils, which share more in common with the Southern Rhône’s own limestone and clay than most people assume before checking.

Ridge Vineyards, sourcing from Adelaida, Fossil Creek, and Halter Ranch, makes its 2024 Grenache Blanc as an 85% Grenache Blanc, 12% Picpoul, 3% Roussanne blend, fermented across stainless steel, oak, concrete, and amphora — four distinct vessels for one finished wine in a single vintage. That’s not a stylistic flourish; each vessel imparts a different textural and aromatic outcome, and blending across all four lets Ridge build complexity through fermentation vessel choice the same way other producers build it through vineyard blending alone.

Fields Family Wines, farming its estate vines under Lodi’s delta‑cooled evening influence, brings a rounder‑textured, orchard‑and‑stone‑fruit counterpoint to California’s Grenache Blanc spectrum — proof the grape’s identity isn’t confined to coastal acidity or Paso Robles’ warm inland weight. And just as the Rhône Rangers keep Tablas Creek’s original import story alive in the broader Rhône‑variety conversation, Fields Family’s estate bottling ensures Grenache Blanc’s evolution stays rooted in producers who treat the grape as a living, ongoing narrative rather than a historical footnote.
.
This window closes October 31, 2027. What’s happening in Grenache Blanc won’t wait for the next cycle. Be in it — bevfluence.com/terroir. #bevfluenceterroir #underthebevfluence by @bevfluence
