High recommendation to take your writing seriously, by not taking yourself too seriously! Get a notebook of a color you enjoy and collage the front and back of it to invite you to write! Give your Muse a quirky place she wants to visit. Make it a home for your weirdnesses! ✏️📓🤪✂️ 🖋️ #keepinganotebook #freewriting #collage #writingpractice #feedyourmuseandgiveheraplacetoland taken in International Museum of Collage, Assemblage and Construction, Santa Fe by @bgeraghty89

After getting to attend @brooklynpoets all-day Poetry Festival, I got to read one of the new poems I wrote in @iamjonsands Emotional Historians workshop at the one and only @hala.n.alyan @kan.yama.kan.bk Open Mic 🙌 hosted by the exuberant and brilliant @oye414 🔥 at @blinkysbar 🍻 where the luminous @doctordushtu @asgharthegrouch @sheer_awe all poetry featured too!💡@carmzl was the featured musician and played cello so beautifully! 🎻 I even got to meet @jamilawoods 😱 Truly an incredibly inspiring day! So grateful to be part of this kind, big-hearted, mega-talented community! The best is yet to come! 🎤📝🎉 #poetry #openmic #writing #reading #performing Photo credit 📷: @russg24 taken in Blinky's by @bgeraghty89

This morning’s triumvirate @sashajdm @empurpler #marilynhacker with a line from each:

Marilyn Hacker: “the other with loaves under her arm”

Sasha Debevec-McKenney: “Sometimes they practice so much we write their last names”

Ravi Shankar: “Gnarled as cliff-face, two shells suctioned.”

What happens when we read other writer’s lines of poetry taken out of context and juxtapose them next to other lines taken out of context?

What happens when we only read headlines and never read the whole article?

🫀💡🧠

To read “Four Cities” by @hala.n.alyan (published by @blacklawrencepress) is to savor these poems like a fine glass of wine. The way they feel on the tongue and in the mouth is pure magic! To not read these poems aloud is to pour them down the drain. The language is beautiful. The meaning is deep. These poems will echo in my mind and down the hall of the apartment I read them in for a long time. There’s no need to go through life sober, when you can get drunk off of words as ethereal and resonant as these. 5/5 If you love poetry, you must own this book!

(Bonus Recommendation: A Monthly Poetry Reading & Open Mic called Kan Yama Kan in Brooklyn at @blinkysbar! @kan.yama.kan.bk for any updates! Founded and curated by Hala Alyan herself! She is a delightful person and has such enthusiasm for poetry and the community she creates that just continues to grow. I couldn’t be happier for her success!) taken in Blinky's by @bgeraghty89

Current read for @thenewschool @newschoolwriting for Professor @mrheeloy class! I would love for anyone to DM me who has read it to talk about what their experience was reading it, as it is a fascinating, mystifying, dense text to read! (An exhibit of her work is happening @artistsspace through 11/21/2026 also for those looking to deep dive further. Her niece @christina.wj.cha came to New York for the opening night too!) 👓📖⁉️ #dictee #theresahakkyungcha #poetry #memoir #autobiography taken in Artists' Space - Art Studio by @bgeraghty89
