An extraordinarily beautiful guest visit by @christina.wj.cha to my Poetry and/as Cinema MFA seminar @newschoolwriting. After reading Theresa Hak Kyung Cha’s Dictee, we read Christina’s writing and watched her powerful film, You Are My Audience, which she produced and is featured in, about her aunt’s art, death and life.

Our MFA grads are some of the most insightful, engaged, and gifted writers, and I’m so glad they had the chance to learn about Dictee and Theresa through Christina’s powerful writing and presence. It was a generative space of engagement, learning, and healing.

So much sa rang to Christina and dear @w_o_n_g_o_o_n. You were warmly evoked with us, as was our dear friend and comrade Grace (Kim) :).

It is always enriching to engage with Theresa’s extraordinary work. The first time I read Dictee was over 20 years ago. It is a book that transmutes time, and Christina’s work brings such important nuance to the larger discourse. I’m deeply grateful for her connection with our graduate students and for the ways she continues to engage with and illuminate her beloved aunt’s art and life.

“I preserve myself there, I don‘t mean to. Uncomprehending horror
torn away and left behind. In the
jumbled mess of chairs and items too big for the small space.
Periphery of vision, casting my eyes high
up to the ceiling, down at the floor in the corners. Softening the gaze
to see her behind what is there.
Black and white static, in the liquid pixels of her films. Letting the
light stutter in, filtered through hands, a small space between fingers.” -- Christina Cha (Chaste You Wait)

Just got a message from @bgeraghty89 saying he liked my art work this morning and I asked if he wanted to collaborate sometime and now this poem art collaboration came together in the same day‼️

I truly love social media for that reason. Bringing together creatives to inspire and uplift each other. This poem by @bgeraghty89 is awesome eh? (Don’t forget to swipe to the right to see it)

Follow along his poetry journey! He just released a book.

Books 19 and 20 of the FIRST HALF of my #thesealeychallenge were This Too is a Place by @bgeraghty89 and the audio production of Breakbeat Poets Vol 2: Black Girl Magic edited by @jamilawoods @mobrowne and @idrissalouise I have switched my approach from previous years and don’t try to read a book a day but rather aim for a total. So Black Girl Magic was a book I dipped into over several weeks in order to stay connected to my goal each day. I don’t think I am going to be able to pull 11 books out in 3 days but we’ll see how I do in the home stretch. Can I make it to 61 books in 61 days WHILE I promote my own book?? We’ll just have to see!

My guy @bgeraghty89 finally published his first collection of poems, congratulations!!! I cannot wait to dive in & read it. It is also not lost on me that I received it in the mail on April 26th, 2025 … which marks the year of our dear friend and fellow poet’s passing. @rich.alexandro , you’re physically no longer with us but those of us whose lives you’ve enriched will forever remember and carry you forward.

Duckling's first French fry and first festival!!! Her greasy sunscreen hair is precious. Sharing our favorite poetry event with our daughter for the first time was the perfect end to the summer.
