Welcome to our beautiful, intimate wellness space in the heart of Downtown Newark, NJ!

Every inch was intentionally designed with Black women in mind. From our exposed brick walls and warm lighting to our cozy lounge and library filled with literature by Black authors, we wanted to create a space that feels like a warm embrace.

A place to move, breathe, rest, read, connect, and simply BE.

Here, Black women can experience Pilates, yoga, Zumba, Afrobeats, sound baths, meditation, and massages, all led by Black women.

Intimate by design. Intentional in every detail. Rooted in sisterhood, wellness, and the belief that Black women deserve spaces where they can truly exhale.

Because Black women deserve more than spaces that welcome us. We deserve spaces created specifically for US. 🖤

Black women are exhausted. And we deserve somewhere to put it all down. 🖤

We spend so much of our lives being strong, showing up, pouring into others, and carrying things the world will never see.

Yet even in spaces created for wellness, we are not always seen, represented, or made to feel like we belong.

BGWC Studio was created to change that.

These incredible Black women said YES to something bigger than teaching a class. They said yes to creating a space where Black women can move without judgment, rest without guilt, and exist without the expectation of always being strong.

A space where our bodies are celebrated, our experiences are understood, and our softness is protected.

Because the women who spend their lives holding everyone else deserve to be held, too.

This is more than Pilates, yoga, dance, and wellness.

This is what happens when Black women stop waiting for a seat at the table and build a home of our own.

To every Black woman searching for a place to exhale, there is room for you here.

10/10 at 10. A day we will never forget. 🖤

What started as a simple walk through the streets of Newark has grown into something greater than we could have ever imagined. And on October 10th, we walked together once again. But this time, we were walking HOME.

Beautiful Black women, dressed in black, filled the streets of Newark with love, sisterhood, joy, and purpose as we celebrated the grand opening of BGWC Studio: A Space to Be Held.

There was something sacred about that day. The hugs. The tears. The prayers. The sound of our footsteps moving together. Every moment reminded us of what happens when Black women come together with a shared vision.

But this grand opening was about so much more than opening the doors to a wellness studio.

It was about creating a home.

A home where Black women can put down the weight of the world, even if only for an hour. A place where you don’t have to perform, prove, or pretend. A place where you can simply BE.

Whether you’re building strength through Pilates, finding peace through yoga, dancing your heart out, receiving a restorative massage, or connecting with women who understand your journey, there is room for you here.

Every class, every experience, and every intentional detail was created with Black women in mind, because we deserve beautiful spaces that prioritize our wellness, celebrate our existence, and remind us that we are worthy of being cared for.

To our board, instructors, partners, supporters, and every woman who walked alongside us, THANK YOU for helping bring this vision to life.

We didn’t just open a studio. We created another place for Black women to call home.

So, sis, if you’ve been searching for community, consistency, sisterhood, or simply a reason to choose yourself again, we hope you’ll make BGWC Studio your home.

Whether you’re waiting for class to start or your massage to begin, grab a book from our little library, get comfortable, and read a few pages.

Our shelves are intentionally filled with literature by Black authors—stories, voices, and wisdom that reflect us. Because wellness isn’t only about movement. Sometimes healing looks like slowing down and finding yourself in the pages.

And a special thank you to our beautiful community who has purchased and donated books for our studio. 🥹🖤 We’re still filling our shelves, one story at a time.
