This spring, I started work as the Farm and Greenhouse Manager at Stony Brook Southampton. This one-acre teaching farm and greenhouse is part of the Food Lab, the food and farming education program at Stony Brook. (Fun fact: I was part of the founding team of Food Lab about ten years ago :)

The Food Lab offers courses and certifications in small-scale farming, food safety, food as medicine, fermentation classes (by @nadia_from_sag_harbor), non-toxic landcare (in conjunction with @perfectearthproject) and lots more. All with the goal of building food literacy and helping launch careers in food, farming and related fields.

At the farm, we have a rotating crew of apprentices, as well as students in the small scale farming course. We supply selected local restaurants (like @almond_bridgehampton), sell seedlings from our greenhouse, and donate produce to @heartofthehamptons. We also have super fun volunteer weeding days. (Hit me up if you want to get your hands in the dirt or need some farmwork therapy.)

I'm excited to help @judianncarmack and team build this program. Stay tuned for more as the season progresses 😉 by @bhalweil
