wöw 10 years ago I got my degree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
~and it was a mess.

back in 2013 (two weeks into the course) I experienced a huge trauma.

I took out extenuating circumstances
was diagnosed with PTSD
had emergency cognitive behavioural therapy at Maudsley Hospital
and dropped off the face of the planet

…but I kept on doing my degree🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡💀because at the time my lil traumatised brain was screaaaming that if I quit/deferred/anything, I would be letting the trauma win.

I now know that dragging myself through the degree (in the state I was in) was a mistake. and if I could do it again differently, I just wouldn’t bother.
not worth the debt or institutional racism tbh.

my advice to the younger ones questioning their life choices is this:

✨It is important to course correct✨

✨there is no shame in changing your mind✨

✨slow down, take care of and listen to yourself✨

three months ago today my brilliant sister Dr Zaahida Nabagereka welcomed her first baby earthside.
~my beautiful niece Nambi was born.

I’ve been trying to put some words together about just how profound this experience has been for me.
so here goes, keep scrolling if you wish.
tis long and musśşhy…

basically witnessing my sisters metamorphosis into
🦋motherhood🦋 has been one of the wildest, most incredible and awe inspiring experiences I have ever had. what an honour and privilege it was to be a birth partner; a keeper of the cave.

attending antinatal classes
listening to my sisters fears+dreams
reading up on hypnobirthing
carrying the groceries/bags
practicing breathing techniques
loving on the bump (painting it was a highlight!)
packing then repacking the hospital bags
etcetcetçcc

I have come away with an even deeper admiration and appreciation for us women ((and birthing people)).
our bodies are fucking magic.
the uterus is CrAžy!

as for the midwives. GOD BLESS THE MIDWIVES!!!!!!!!
but honestly everyone involved, from the doctors right thru to the porters///ward staff.
I have never been so impressed by and grateful to have the #Nhs.

then we get to my niece, precious Nambi.
my little Squish. whom I have been loving since she was the size of a raspberry.
with so much darkness in the world right now, Nambi has been a little oasis of sunshine.
pure sunshine. light+love.
she is a complete delight.
a powerful and sensitive Pisces firehorse…
and my new best friend.

I am SOo proud of you @znabagereka.
you’re doing amazingly mama.
I love love love love LOVE being your daughters auntie.
