POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Some of our favourite moments and photos of the year from Carnegie!

This year we had visitors from the States who were on a tour of Carnegie buildings, lots of yoga classes, new groups utilising our rooms, launched a crowdfunding campaign, opened the Carnegie Cafe with Sweet Carolina, celebrated milestones with the librarians, got active with Active Lambeth, hosted our first wedding and Christmas Markets, pushed pianos, built a stage and lots of baffles and totems, and got loads of keys cut!

It was a great 2025 and we are looking forward to another fantastic year at The Hub!

Introducing @bibanabi 🗣🍃, one of five Off The Fence’24 artists commissioned by @brixtonproject in collaboration with @brockwell_live.

Habiba Nabisubi is a British-Ugandan multimedia artist, educator, mental health advocate and illustrator based in South London. She is a highly detailed visual storyteller and worldbuilder, with authentic representation being at the core of her practice. Having graduated from Camberwell College of the Arts in 2016 with a BA(Hons) Illustration degree; she then went on to participate in Arts Council funded Pathways Into (Children’s Publishing) 2019-2021. She has worked with BBC, Angelo Seminara, Merky Books, The National Portrait Gallery, Peckham Levels and The Horniman Museum & Gardens, amongst others.

Artist Statement:

During these dark times of global devastation, division and deportation it’s important to remember that we are all still connected. We need each other. Lambeth wouldn’t be the same without the people, the people make the borough (in my opinion). This artwork is a snapshot of that community and those brilliant people, each and every one deserving celebration. Thank you to those who shared a story or sent a photo to help me make this artwork happen. I couldn’t have done it without you.

back in late Feb I was invited by @npgyouth to create a series of illustrated vignettes in response to ‘The Time is Always Now’ exhibition at @nationalportraitgallery. my illustrations would be used during their second Youth Late on March 28th 🌻✨

unsurprisingly, I loved the exhibition.
anything @ekoweshun works on is brilliant.

for my illustrations I took inspiration from all of the plant life, greenery and Black hair(duhh) I came across; but this exhibition offered SO much more. seeing nothing but artworks of Black figures, knowing that they were created by artists from the African diaspora was such a breath of fresh air and incredibly grounding. this post doesn’t do the exhibition justice.

during the Youth Late my illustrations were used on the downloadable pdf programme, signage within the building, on reading lists and prompts(in the quiet/interactive spaces) and on silk scarves worn by and gifted to the young producers. I obvi got one too!
~it was surrëål to see my drawings and name pasted around NPG.

thank yoouuuuu for the trust NPG Youth🫶🏽💚

Festival Season is coming… check out Off The Fence’24, a spectacular collaboration between artists and local community coming soon to Brockwell Park! 🌞

This year’s @brockwell_live festival season celebrates 50 years of @lambethcountryshow, with the perimeter fence of the 1 month festival run being transformed into a large-scale installation honouring Lambeth’s history of radical celebration.

In collaboration with Brockwell Live, @brixtonproject has commissioned five artists, through a widespread open call, to design artwork for the fence based on community ideas and memories of celebration.

Selected artists @akmasya, @iammisha_b, @lindleywilliam, @bibanabi, @heart_in_art_workshops & @jeancharleslorna, ran creative workshops with local residents of all ages as part of the Brixton Project’s Community Research Exchange. The workshops set out to gather the disparate voices of Lambeth’s local residents to share personal and collective narratives through dynamic, creative means.

📅 Catch #OffTheFence24 in Brockwell Park, SE24 from 22 May - 9 June 2024!

Look out for artist spotlights coming soon 👀
