thinking about vaguely threatening religious road signs and the way fear (of hell, of abandonment) permeated the walls of my adolescent mind and bedroom. pop up rooms and fragmented spaces, a puncture or a rupture of the falsified veneer and the relative truth of structural material.

I am so excited that I got to finish and document this piece @stove_works ! I had such a wonderful time and will be sharing more work soon along with snippets from the two months I was lucky to spend in Tennessee and even luckier to have hit the vintage wallpaper lotto I’ve been praying for

A striving after wind

the last image is an embroidery pattern found amongst my great great grandmothers sewing things, a through line shared by much of my work. maybe you recognize this if you’ve been following me for a little while- I’ve posted other iterations of this image in fiber, but the process of deconstructing this image began during my thesis year with a series of paintings, an ongoing interrogation of ideological reproduction, relative falsehoods and facades —- unbuilding ___
This painting began much larger and hung unfinished in the wall in my studio for quite some time. I’d added a figure (oversized, godlike, playing with his toys) into the painting and subsequently ruined it, feeling unable to resolve it. his ghost (shoe) remains after I cut the painting down - the best part about making is giving something a different form or shape, cutting it down and preserving the Good things and getting rid of what doesn’t work. So with advice from my old professors who visited and a fellow resident I was able to resolve this piece in TN! this is a working title…

I heard this quote, “Care is a promise, care is a practice” by @beatriceadlerbolton in a recent @deathpanel_ episode and felt so inspired by it. I highly recommend checking out Death Panel - a truly incredible resource and a must listen for anyone but especially folks interested in keeping up to date with the dumpster fire of public health in pandemic reality & learning more about Disability justice in general!

I have been thinking a lot about embodied care & the responsibilities we have to one another in so many ways. We must care for one another, we must resist the indifference & individuality that fascism & capitalism dictate. This is material, this is financial, and it only grows more crucial by the day. How do we conceptualize care outside of ourselves? Outside of our immediate connections? How do we sustain the lives and security of our comrades? How can we step up and show up for one another? This can and does look like a lot of different things - ultimately - it is a promise! It is a practice! it is a commitment to a better world, it is a refutation of the horror and abject violence of empire. Day by day, week by week.

Another piece I finished @stove_works in April ~
I plasma cut several of these “lace” frames while still at msstate, I rly love them & am excited about the potential this form has as something on/off the wall or freestanding as well as series potential,,, etc
working with satin is also lots of fun and I’m super into the in/visibility that shifts with light and obscuring/revealing text and image

Hey y’all!!!! I’m back again with another raffle to raise funds for a comrade! This time, I’m raffling off an oil painting - I’ve been out of painting practice for a while but I’ve been getting back in the swing of things lately and hope to keep doing more! This painting is a meditation on wanting more - of everything, from everything- of knowing things don’t have to be the way they are, and that building otherwise worlds of radical love & care & community support is not only possible, but imperative.

sharing some more old work bc I’m suuuuuUper excited about my upcoming March residency @stove_works !!!!! i’m so excited for the opportunity, I can’t wait to make some new work & play with all my toys <33

this was one of the most intensive pieces from my thesis show - forged, welded, painted, flocked wrought iron gate

in the context of my larger thesis installation ( a bastardization and recontextualizatuon of the nuclear home) this piece existed along side a few other works to connote an exterior extension of the home. was thinking about presentations of domesticity/ownership, the lawn as extension of home, velvet pink wrought iron curlicues and astroturf quilt squares as material oxymorons
