In a recent podcast interview someone asked me, “What have you learned from 14 years of traveling by bicycle?”

My response was, “Traveling by bicycle teaches you to be comfortable outside your comfort zone!”

#FjallravenAmbassador

Adventure doesn’t always require a faraway destination. Sometimes, it’s right outside your front door.

A bicycle ride through the city, a quiet moment watching birds, or a fresh cup of coffee surrounded by mountains.

I’ve learned that adventure isn’t defined by how far we travel, but by how we choose to experience the world around us.

Stay curious. Find adventure in everyday moments. Anywhere, Everyday. 🚲 🦆🦅🦜☕

Bikepacking is therapy. Meditation. Peace. Clarity. Expression. Patience. Dedication. Strength. Progress. Discovery. Passion. History. Self-respect. 🚲

That’s how I describe bikepacking.

What does traveling by bike teach you? For @bicycle_nomad it's not a one-off lesson, it's the same one on repeat. Every hard moment in the saddle builds the confidence to face the next one, on the bike and off it.

There’s something special about experiencing a place at the pace of a bicycle. 🚲🇫🇷

When @efadventures invited me to ride through Burgundy & the Loire Valley, it felt like the perfect combination of so many things I love, cycling, history, cultural immersion, incredible food, and meaningful connections.

As a father of two with a full-time job, I also appreciated something I don’t always have, the freedom to simply show up and experience the journey. The routes, accommodations, and logistics were taken care of, leaving more time to be present.

We pedaled through vineyards and quiet French villages, explored centuries of history and magnificent châteaux, shared meals, met people along the way, and experienced this beautiful part of France from the seat of a bicycle.

For me, that’s what adventure travel should feel like, not simply passing through a destination, but slowing down enough to connect with it.

Burgundy & Loire Valley, you were unforgettable. ❤️🇫🇷

SOME PEOPLE EXPLORE HISTORY. ERICK RIDES THROUGH IT.

If you've been rocking with Black Travel Summit, then Erick Cedeño needs no introduction.

You watched him become one of the FIRST winners of the @blacktravelfilmfestival . You've seen him grace our stage as a Keynote Speaker. And through the years, we've watched him continue to explore, document, preserve, and amplify the stories of Black heroes across this country.

Known as @bicycle_nomad , Erick is an adventurer, storyteller, historical explorer-and most importantly, a legacy preserver AND builder.

He has traveled through 49 U.S. states by bicycle, using adventure as a vehicle to uncover stories often missing from the traditional American narrative.

He retraced the Underground Railroad.

He took on the historic 1,900-mile journey of the 25th Infantry Bicycle Corps, following the path of the all-Black regiment of Buffalo Soldiers who rode from Fort Missoula, Montana, to St. Louis in 1897.

And as a graduate of Bethune-Cookman University, where he studied Travel and Tourism, Erick has built a life around the intersection of adventure, Black history, culture, storytelling, and the outdoors.

Now, he returns to the BTS stage for a conversation we know our community NEEDS:

SEASONED, SEEN, AND STILL EXPLORING: TRAVELING AS WE AGE.

Our stories don’t become less important with time. Our curiosity doesn’t ever have to shrink. There are still places to explore, histories to uncover, firsts to experience, and LEGACIES TO BUILD.

And Erick is living proof.

"History becomes my carrot when I travel by bike."

For Erick Cedeño, the miles ridden are only half the story. Retracing the Underground Railroad, the next stop — Cincinnati's Freedom Center, Ashtabula, Niagara Falls — is what pulls him through the hardest days in the saddle.
Hear his journey on the latest episode of Quality Bicycle People.

In 2022, I retraced the route of the U.S. Army’s 25th Infantry Bicycle Corps and their historic 1897 expedition from Missoula, Montana, to St. Louis, Missouri.

On the Wyoming, South Dakota state line, on my way to Edgemont, I had ridden more than 70 miles of gravel without seeing another person.

Then, out of nowhere, three horses appeared, running straight toward me.

They were coming so fast that I honestly thought they were going to take me down. I pulled out my GoPro because, if I was about to get hurt in the middle of nowhere, at least I’d have proof of what happened. 😂

But instead of taking me down, they joined me.

For a little while, I had three unexpected riding companions. 🚲🐎🐎🐎

One of those moments from the journey I’ll never forget.

Some things just become part of your everyday life. #ad

For me, that’s the @fjallraven_na Skule.

It’s on my back for the morning commute, carrying my laptop to work, moving through airports with me, and heading out on the trail whenever I get the chance.

I never really think about which backpack I need anymore. I just grab this one.

Work. Commute. Travel. Trail.
Seven days a week. 🎒🚲✈️🥾
