Exciting news from BIDMC! 🎉 The Richard A. and Susan F. Smith Center for Outcomes Research is now the Richard A. and Susan F. Smith Institute for Evidence, Innovation, and Policy!

What started as a research center has grown into a nationally recognized leader in health care evidence, policy, innovation, and workforce development. The new Smith Institute will bring together experts across disciplines to advance research, evaluate emerging technologies like AI, develop future leaders, and help shape the future of health care.

This year, the Division of Breast Surgery at BIDMC is proud to join forces with the BIDMC Cancer Center in participating in the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Boston on October 3rd.

Team Katherine brings together staff, faculty, friends, and family in support of a beloved colleague who is bravely navigating a breast cancer diagnosis.

We walk in solidarity with Katherine and with all those whose lives have been touched by breast cancer. We honor the courage of those who have faced this disease, celebrate those who continue to fight, remember those we have lost, and stand together in hope for a future without breast cancer.

As primary care continues to evolve, the Linde Family Fellowship helps equip physicians with the leadership skills, perspectives and experience needed to shape its future.

Meet this year’s fellows:

🩺 Brent Fryling, MD — Family physician and regional medical director with extensive experience in primary care, including work in rural and underserved communities in the U.S. and abroad.

🩺 Frinny Polanco, MD, MPH, FAAP — Pediatrician and adolescent medicine specialist and Medical Director of Bowdoin Street Health Center, focused on health equity, adolescent health and expanding access to care.

🩺 Kara Nugent, MD — General internist and Interim Medical Director of Midlife and Menopause Care at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, with a focus on personalized care for women navigating midlife and menopause.

🩺 Linya Yang, MD, MBA — Medical Director of BILH Primary Care’s Brookline Family Medicine practice, focused on innovative approaches to meeting the needs of patients, families and care teams.

Over the course of the one-year fellowship, each fellow will develop their leadership skills through coaching, workshops, self-assessment and a project designed to advance their home practice.
