Rooted in Arimatsu, Japan, @suzusan_official works with shibori, a traditional Japanese textile technique that has been passed down in the region for over 400 years.⁠

Throughout the creative process, subtle variations in colour, small irregularities and unexpected patterns naturally emerge. Some pieces do not become part of the final collection, while others are designs that have never been released.⁠

Rather than leaving these pieces unseen, SUZUSAN CIRCLE MARKET gives them a new life — creating a new cycle between artisans and those who cherish their creations.⁠

For Suzusan, preserving shibori does not mean keeping it unchanged.⁠
It means allowing the craft to evolve.⁠
As the number of traditional artisans declines, Suzusan is working to pass their knowledge to a new generation — while continuing to experiment with new materials, forms and ways of using shibori.⁠
Each piece carries the irregularities of the human hand. No two results are exactly alike.⁠
By creating objects that belong to contemporary life, Suzusan hopes that shibori will remain a living craft — not only something inherited from the past, but something that can continue into the future.⁠

Hiroyuki Murase, founder and creative director of Suzusan, grew up surrounded by shibori in Arimatsu, as part of a family that has worked with the craft for generations.⁠
But it was only after leaving Japan to study art in Europe that he began to see it differently.⁠
From a distance, what had once felt familiar revealed itself as something extraordinary: the irregularity of the patterns, the traces of the human hand, and the endless possibilities created by manipulating a piece of cloth before dyeing it.⁠
This new perspective became the starting point for Suzusan — bringing the knowledge of Arimatsu into a contemporary world of fashion, art and design.⁠

For more than 400 years, the town of Arimatsu in Japan has been known for the art of shibori.⁠
At its peak, thousands of artisans were involved in the many highly specialized processes behind this extraordinary craft. Today, as the number of skilled artisans continues to decline, much of this knowledge risks disappearing.⁠
Suzusan was born in Arimatsu, from a family that has practiced shibori for generations — with a desire not simply to preserve the tradition, but to give it a new place in contemporary life.⁠
