@wearecowtown are coming to @kcc_shipley on Saturday 17th October and we've invited them to curate a lineup of all the fun stuff... joining them will be double drums / vocals duo RATTLE, Wrong Speed punk rockers BIG BREAK, Leeds noise duo NO DISC and the debut gig from a new band Cowtown's Nash is doing, DOMES.

Cowtown deals in tight, lean, joyous post-punk for our times. Music with an emphasis on positive expression and confronting collective anxieties, cemented with live shows that focused on only what they enjoy and discarding the rest. Serrated guitar hooks cut through the air with razor-sharp precision; glottal vocals ricochet off a marauding low-end that’s part Vice City soundtrack, part Devo-gone-disco; no second feels wasted, no element superfluous.

The ebullient trio of David Michael Shields (drums), Hilary Knott (keybass/vocals) and Jonathan Nash (guitar/vocals) remain econo, dynamic and over-stimulated after over 20+ years in the field. They’ve played with practically everyone; from Thee Oh Sees, Jon Spencer, Lightning Bolt, Le Savy Fav, Quasi, Death Sentence Panda, Chad VanGaalen, Deerhoof and Ponytail, to more unexpected supports for the likes of Afrikan Boy, Maximo Park, Future Islands and Wolf Alice. They’ve lost track of how many Marc Riley sessions they’ve performed and easily hold the record for the most played shows at the legendary local hotspot The Brudenell Social Club.

Tickets are on sale now and @shipleytriangle will be in the bar from 5 pm 🍻

DC Presents: media puzzle (Aus) / Second Born (Leeds) / Big Break (Sheffield)

MEDIA PUZZLE

Melbourne via Lismore, New South Wales' revved-up cartoon post-punks media puzzle hit Sheffield on their first ever UK tour. New album New Racehorse just dropped and it's receiving the acclaim it so richly deserves. Pitchfork gave it a skyscraping 8.0 if that means anything. Synthy-egg punk chaos with trumpet, jangle-pop hooks and songs that don't hang about too long. Think Devo a bit? "The only thing better than coming up with new ways to have fun is being invited to join in" - Pitchfork / "Fun, goofy, catchy-great late-summer set of tunes on offer." - MRR

Support comes Leeds-via-Birmingham's Second Born (think Island of Love, Ovlov, Teenage Fanclub) and from fellow synthy-egg-hardcore-punk-devo enthusiasts Big Break.

£11 advance via skiddle

Big Break are England’s most underrated guitar band, firing away on all pistons in explosive humility. One of a kind, loud, luscious, outsider-hardcore excellence- Jonah Falco (Fucked Up, Game, Jade Hairpins, and way more)

@the_none_band
'They ricochet across a cavalcade of genres. Stuttering early noughties inspired Brit rock, bullish hardcore grit and even Life Without Buildings-style post punk’– The Quietus

‘… a brilliant industrial racket’– Rolling Stone

@honestyrhere
“blurs krautrock, shoegaze, trip-hop and alt-pop into a moody, grainy whole. The result is an atmospheric and expansive electronic sound, in places, a bit like a goth Burial – even if it is faceless. But in 2025, perhaps that’s more honest than anything.” The Guardian

@thechiseluk
“anthemic, no-frills punk realm, and they’re still writing face-value lyrics “about dickheads, working class people, punching people, getting punched,”
BROOKLYN VEGAN

@militariegun
“Overflows with singular, soaring and soulful energy.” 8/10 CLASH MUSIC

“Genre-defying angst never sounded so good” 8/10 CLASSIC ROCK MAGAZINE

“Life Under the Gun may frequently taste like candy, but, in the end, it’s a lollipop whittled into a shiv.” 9/ 10 Rolling Stone taken in The Grove Newcastle by @big____break
