"This is for all you lovers out there"

Seven years ago today our daughter Molly married her hubby Lewis. Their wedding song was Earth Angel, so on Monday night I took my old guitar over to @80svideoshop for Chuck Berry's cousin, Marvin, lead singer of the Starlighters, to add a lovely dedication to mark the occasion. After a moment or two to compose himself, he opted for '7 years being fools in love' which was just perfect!

Many happy returns to @no_its_molly and @lewistrinder98 and thanks to Rob, Chris & Neil, for putting on a great evening!

Okay, full disclosure...

Me & @velmajen68 and the team behind @80svideoshop in Alfreton, have been cooking up a bit of a treat for you lot!

Film director, Chris Annable's latest and greatest picture to date, '3 Night Rental - The Holiday Special' will soon be released to the masses, and it features us both in supporting roles as unhinged serial killers! We were completely honoured to have been invited to take part in this amazing production, and are super excited to see the final cut at a one-off exclusive premiere screening of the film at the Quad in Derby on Saturday, November 21st. The tickets alone are a thing of beauty, so get yourselves a seat while we still have some!!

It's looking like it's going to be a full house long before opening night, and you won't be able to buy them on the door. You can buy online at glubobprod.uk or over the counter at the 80s Video Shop in Alfreton. For those of you who know me outside of the 'tinternet, I also have a limited number available.

We'd love to see you!

Mother, Father & Cuthbert x

The Broadway cinema in Nottingham had a book fair on yesterday, so I had to pop down and say hello to local writer @adbarker and pick up some of his wonderful stories! @zorba_thegeek first brought Andrew's work to my attention when he gifted me a copy of 'Dead Leaves' last year. It's set in the early 80's and is a coming of age tale of young lads growing up in Derby against the backdrop of the VHS boom and the 'Video Nasties' media storm. In short, it's one of those books that you instantly connect with and feels as if the book was written just for you... It's a must for fans of the Evil Dead!

I had to pick up two of Andrew's other books 'The Electric' & 'Society Place'. Both of which sound perfect for the spooky season!

"You were supposed to be a monster, now I'm the f@uckin' beast. There's blood on my hands. Look what you made me do. Come on, stick that knife in me. Please. I don't know what else I'm capable of doing.

I just wanna lie with my brother..."

One of the reasons I held off doing the locations for Dead Man's Shoes before now was that I didn't think I'd be able to match anything up for the final scenes of the film. I knew Riber castle had been closed off to the public for several years and was being turned into plush apartments. I figured, what was the point? It's true, the complex is very secure, and for good reason. You wouldn't spend all that money on a luxury pad just to have a mug like me taking pictures of it, would you? It's also true that there really isn't much left from the film. The Devil's house looks to have been demolished within the last few years and the grounds are currently being developed as part of the next phase of construction. But all is not lost. As it turns out, you don't see too much of the castle up close anyway. They used aerial footage of the building, which was never going to be possible. I did, however, just about smash one of the better camera frames of the castle. This was through a chain link fence that runs along a public footpath around the perimeter. I was happy with what I got.

On the whole, this has been a brilliant project that both @velmajen68 and myself have enjoyed working on together. We've met some great people, I've fallen in love with the film all over again, and have a deeper appreciation for how the film was made. We're definitely getting better at planning our jaunts. I'm pushing myself more to be as thorough as possible with finding as many places as I can, even the more obscure ones. I also think my match ups are getting better too, which is reflected by how much support that you guys give with every new location tour. It really does mean the world to me, so thank you!!

The next one isn't too far away. It's another Shane Meadows one, that should keep you guessing 😉

"Who was that little lad
that kept showing his arse
whenever he got the ball?"

"That's Michael,
Michael Parks."

"They tried to hold me hand,
didn't they, mate?"

"Yeah, didn't they.
They all held your hand...

I didn't."

"I know you didn't."

"Don't need to, do I?"

The short scene where Richard & Anthony are sat in a tractor tyre together, is probably my favourite bit in 'Dead Man's Shoes'. We understand how much Anthony admires his brother, and why Richard is fiercely compelled to defend him. Watching the scene again, after we finally understand what happened to Anthony, makes it all the more heartbreaking. The chemistry between them is wonderful, and I was shocked to learn recently that Paddy Considine didn't want Toby Kebbell to be in the film to begin with!

What follows is a montage of countryside shots, as the gang make their way back to Matlock. Matching these was quite a challenge, and the barn shot in particular ended up being a complete fluke, after hours of Google street map research. Sure, the zoom on a phone is no match for a film camera, or crane shots for that matter, but you get the idea...

Just a quick shout out again to @metalblade_chris for his sublime photoshop skills... I appreciate you, brother! 👊🏻

"You've got some guts coming to my door in that shape. I'm going to rub your fat belly in the f@cking mud, you Gack!"

Lamp post enthusiast is a new one for the CV, but finding the spot of where Richard stalks Alan and Gypsy John on their drunken walk home required matching the codes of the poles with Google street maps. Most have been replaced over the years, and are less ornate, but the numbers haven't changed, fortunately. '59068' is barely visible now, but the numbers of the street lights either side of that allowed me to match the house opposite, which has also changed a lot and is quite similar to several other homes along Hurst Rise.

Matching Sonny's club on the high street also proved to be tricky, as Saturday lunchtime appears to be the time when the entire town decides they want to be in my photo! I had seconds, and the sun in my eyes, to match the shot before the lights changed and allowed another few minutes of traffic to pass through.

I would have liked to have got over the wall into the field to see 'Dolly' the 2CV coming up the hill. Sadly, the gate had been tied shut, and like Alan, I'm no shape to be climbing over shit. Especially into a field of curious cattle!

"Kes. Kes. Come on, Kes. Come on, then.

Nowt happened. So I thought

"l'd better walk back and pick her up."

So while I were walkin' back,

I saw her flyin'. She came like a bomb!

About a yard off t'floor, like lightning,

head still, and you couldn't hear t'wings.

There weren't a sound from t'wings.

And straight onto t'glove. Wham!"

What a pleasure it was to meet 'Billy Casper' from Ken Loach's classic film "Kes" this afternoon. Dai Bradley is a real gentleman, and very polite to talk to.

I took an ex-library copy of Barry Hines book, which is on permanent loan from the John Hurt Community Sports College in Plymouth - Much like Billy's bird book from the film...

Thanks to Rob 'n Chris for putting on another great event @80svideoshop in Alfreton.

Thanks to Gav & Lucy from @loftmovienotts for a marvellous Saturday matinee of 'Saturday Night & Sunday Morning' at the Savoy cinema in Nottingham today. I was probably one of the youngest in the audience, but the vibes were immaculate... I took my original Portuguese poster of 'Tudo Começou Num Sãbado' which translates to 'See You Next Tuesday'. Wait, that's not right... Sorry, 'It All Began on Saturday'. I got this on eBay a few years ago for about £30! Which seems like peanuts for a poster from the 1960s...

Thanks to @velmajen68 for being my wing woman in this life 🫶🏻

"I'm not threatening you, mate. It's beyond f@cking words. I watched over you when you were asleep and I looked at your f@cking neck and I was that far away from slicing it. You're f@cking there, mate! So get in that f@cking car and f@ck off!"

Goosebumps... After twenty something years, that monologue feels like it could have been uttered by Shakespeare himself. It's testament to just how good Dead Man's Shoes was written and how it will only get better in another two decades...

I thought I knew Matlock pretty well, but this locations tour took me to places I often wondered about when we were driving through the town. A lot of these locations are pretty close together too. You can walk between half a dozen of these places within a few minutes of each other. Many of the houses have had face lifts, and the council estate style cladding has all but disappeared. The vast majority of the neighborhood is a lot more desirable than when it first appeared on camera. Those grubby garages, where Sonny confronts Richard for the first time, have long been demolished in favour of more housing. You could easily miss it, but the roof line of the neighbouring houses gives it away.

Now, I'm sure lots of people stop to capture their own 'You're f@cking there mate' moment for prosperity, but I would encourage anyone to do so with dignity and respect. One or two curtains were twitching when we had our moment, and the local kids didn't waste the opportunity to take the piss either...
