We’ve been wanging on about apples a lot lately (the apple appeal’s still open!)

So let's take a look at how they go from branch to bottle. In Spring, the blossom gets pollinated (we’ve got our own army of bees to help with that) and the apples start to grow. How big they get depends on the weather (*shakes fist at climate change induced heatwaves*) - small apples have less juice but more sugar, which means more alcohol.

Big juicy apples mean more big juice, as you’d imagine. We like the big juicy ones the most. From September, we collect apples that would otherwise go to waste. By buying our cider you’re an eco warrior. Well done you.

There’s natural yeast on the apple skins and when we press the fruit some of that yeast gets into the juice. Then we add the magic ingredient - TIME. Yeasty juice (sounds gross but isn’t) plus time equals cider. We literally just leave the juice alone for a year or two. Then it’s time for tasting, adjusting the flavour, and bottling. And one of our favourite jobs, thinking up a name.

You can learn all the ins and outs of how we wild ferment our cider on From Branch To Bottle on Saturday October 17th, 10am - 4pm. We’ll teach you everything you need to know about how to make cider and we’ll send you away with 20L of juice to take home and turn into the good stuff.

Then on Friday 2nd October, it’s our last tap night of the year. Enjoy our range of Sussex ciders, pizzas from Pioppi’s, and of course, some live music. We’ve got Emma Furlong coming to play acoustic covers and soft rock. Tickets are a fiver and include your first drink.

All tickets are on our website on the Events page or via the link in our bio..

Did we tell you about our Mistelle? It’s our Sussex take on a traditional digestif called Pommeau from Normandy and Brittany. We can’t call it Pommeau, on account of not being made in Normandy/Brittany so it’s our Mistelle - a technical name for a drink blending fruit juice and that fruit’s booze.

We blend our apple juice with our Spirit of Cider, which preserves the full apple aroma, fruity sweetness, and pleasant acidity.

It’s got the alcohol content (17%) of a liqueur and can serve as a pre-meal aperitif, where the sweet acidity sets you up for the coming delights, or as a digestif after eating, to round things off nicely.

It's especially good with all the autumnal desserts - appley puddings, crumbles, and sponges like sticky toffee pudding. Sweet, sharp and punchy it really brings out fruity notes. And you have to try it with dark chocolate!

From Branch To Bottle is on Saturday October 17th, 10am - 4pm. We’ll teach you everything you need to know about how to make cider and we’ll send you away with 20L of juice to take home and cidernate. And by cidernate we mean “leave alone so nature can do its thing and turn it into cider thanks to the naturally occurring yeast”.

We had this lovely feedback from Jeff, who came to our September FBTB course, “You did a great job. Your complimentary and understated characters, patience and openness made it very accommodating for a group of beginners. Well done.”

Cheers, Jeff :)

If you like the sound of it, tickets are £175 including your lunch (and the juice, and a container for the juice), with a special price when you bring a friend (quite literally, mates rates). You can sign up using the link below 👇🏻

Then on Friday 2nd October, we’ll gather in the orchard one last time before the end of the year.

Come along to our tap night to enjoy our range of Sussex ciders, some street food, and of course, some live music. Tickets are a fiver and include your first drink. And when you buy a ticket in advance it helps us in several ways.

1) we can let the food provider know how many hungry bellies to expect
2) we know how much booze to lug over to the bar
3) it stops our blood pressure getting too high.

Get your earlybird special!

Calling all the WhatsApp group admins, PTA members, and other assorted organised types.

On Saturday June 26th 2027 we’re back in our Framfield cidery for a full, glorious, sun-soaked (fingers crossed) day of music, dancing (optional), making crafty things, eating well, and (obviously) drinking a highly responsible amount of excellent Sussex cider.

Tickets are usually £40 but you can bag your early bird special price of £30 if you buy now.

Here's what you get:

🎸 11 hours of live music,  noon to 11pm
🍕 Food vans on site
🔥 Free craft activities (some include fire)
🍻 Our biggest ever selection of real Sussex ciders on tap

Go to the events section of our website (link in bio) to get your tickets - that’s where you can book a camping spot too. And children’s tickets are just £12.50 and include all the crafty activities, no extra hidden charges to get whacked with on the day.

See you there? The earlier you book the lower our blood pressure (probably).

We had a wonderful time at the weekend getting out into the orchard to pick apples. We had some happy helpers too - huge thanks to the 60 (SIXTY!) plus pairs of hands we had, including children from the Buxted Scouts Squirrels. It was hard going in the muggy heat and with such a slim harvest. But many tiny hands make light work.

Thanks to the crew we managed to fill a whole trailer. We had great fun pressing some of the apples into juice too - partly because it’s a great party trick but mainly to keep everyone hydrated (and sugar-fuelled) for the picking.

We went straight into pressing the apples ready to turn into cider. A very timely arrival from Gilly and David meant a big apple haul went straight into the press. Fresh or what!

Our next picking day is on 27th September near Iden Green. Book a spot on our events page on our website so we know how much cake to bring.
