A sonic transmutation of styles with Bob Balch from FU MANCHU, Gary Arce and Bill Stinson from YAWNING MAN and Tony Reed from MOS GENERATOR

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Big Scenic Nowhere doesn’t hit the stage often, but when they do it’s something else entirely. Built from deep roots in the desert rock underground, the band brings together Bob Balch of Fu Manchu, Tony Reed of Mos Generator and Pentagram, along with Gary Arce and Bill Stinson of Yawning Man. What starts as heavy psychedelic groove drifts into wide open improvisation, fuzzed out riffs and hypnotic jams that feel made for the desert after dark. Rare, immersive and impossible to pin down, Big Scenic Nowhere is the kind of band you don’t just watch live…you disappear into it.

Big Scenic Nowhere - Rehearsal 11/19/21 limited edition vinyl LP. 100 copies on black wax. Vinyl only, no digital. Out now!
This recording documents the second Big Scenic Nowhere rehearsal in preparation for our debut show at Blak Box Theater in Joshua Tree, California, on November 20th, 2021. Up until that debut show, almost all of the recordings we had made were live in the studio jams that were later manipulated into songs by editing and overdubbing through file sharing at our home studios. We had never gone back and tried to play any of those songs after they were finished, until the rehearsals for the debut show. Two days before the show, we convened at a house in Yucca Valley to work out the live arrangements. I brought an 8 track recorder and captured the complete second rehearsal. The order of songs on this LP are the same order as the set list for the show and for those of you who wanted to be there, but couldn’t, this is what we sounded like. - Reed, Oct. ‘25

Pretty awesome review of the new BIG SCENIC NOWHERE album! (LINK IN THE BIO) Thanks so much musipediaofmetal! THE WAYDOWN is out Friday!!!!!

“Big Scenic Nowhere is not some one-off side project but one of the best bands that exist today, period. I didn’t think Big Scenic Nowhere could top The Long Marrow but somehow, they have. The playing is unmatched, the vibe is on point for what they are delivering, and the songs and the production are perfect to my ears. Album of the year front runner and a record that will be remembered for years to come. 10/10”

New BIG SCENIC NOWHERE track “Surf Western” is up! (LINK IN THE BIO)

!!! NEW TRACK PREMIERE !!!

*** BIG SCENIC NOWHERE @bigscenicnowhere - Surf Western ***

Today we are stoked to share with you Big Scenic Nowhere third single SURF WESTERN taken from the upcoming new album THE WAYDOWN.
The release will see the light February 2nd via Heavy Psych Sounds.

LISTEN TO THE TRACK HERE or tap in our story
https://youtu.be/I5pxhCpjDEU

SAYS THE BAND:
“Bob Balch here. Surf western was a riff that Gary Arce started playing while we were in the studio. I figured out a harmony for it and then Gary Arce, Tony Reed, Billy Stinson and myself started jamming on it for about 20 minutes. We did some editing on it, to give it a middle section that breaks down to just Tony Reed and my guitar. It then ends heavy with some synth and fuzz. I feel like there are a lot of different styles in this song, so it’s a good representation of what the record sounds like since we’re pulling from multiple influences throughout.”
