We’re so excited for @mojave_experience_festival & the @kyussworld meet up! 🤘

Just over 150 bucks to see all these awesome bands plus more is an absolute steal. They’re doing awesome work. This festival isn’t even about the bands though, it’s about the feel. The raw DIY desert feel that nowhere else can replicate.

In the lead up to the Kyuss World Desert Rock Pilgrimage in Sept 2023, @cvindependent made us the cover photo/featured story and @mattseanking wrote up an award-winning piece on our gathering and our annual group photo!
We’re very excited to bring our pilgrimage to the Mojave Experience weekend in March 2027! This fledgling festival is going all-out to bring some of the biggest names in heavy/desert rock into the otherworldly surroundings of Joshua Tree!
Hearkening back to the Stoned & Dusted days that welcomed our first pilgrimage in 2017!

Join us on March 19, 2027 (coincidentally @brant_bjork ‘s birthday!) at 2pm for the next group photo at the Welcome To Sky Valley sign and the enjoy an epic weekend of amazing music, incredible surroundings, and the most legit Mexican food you can find this side of the border!

Got some Desert goodies in a mega package all the way from the states a couple of weeks back and spent this afternoon spinning some awesome records.
This record, completely announced out of the blue in very limited numbers so had to grab one!

Big Scenic Nowhere doesn’t hit the stage often, but when they do it’s something else entirely. Built from deep roots in the desert rock underground, the band brings together Bob Balch of Fu Manchu, Tony Reed of Mos Generator and Pentagram, along with Gary Arce and Bill Stinson of Yawning Man. What starts as heavy psychedelic groove drifts into wide open improvisation, fuzzed out riffs and hypnotic jams that feel made for the desert after dark. Rehearsal 11/19/2021 by Big Scenic Nowhere. 9/10. This may actually be my favorite Big Scenic Nowhere album. It helped me appreciate some studio tracks I’ve heard before. This may also be my favorite album for Tony’s vocals strangely enough. I preferred Side A of the album. LeDü kinda gave me 12:30 Dreamtime vibes. #bigscenicnowhere #bobbalch #tonyreed #yawningman #musicabuse

Bow to your Masters Vol. I, II, III

If you’re the kind of listener who lives for dusty riffs, tube amp warmth, and that hazy space where homage turns into full-blown reinvention, the Bow to Your Masters series by @gloryordeathrecords is pretty much essential listening.

This isn’t your typical tribute album territory. There’s no sterile reproduction here—no safe, note-for-note copies. Instead, this series feels like the underground scene stepping up to honor its roots the only way it knows how: louder, fuzzier, and soaked in groove. From the very first volume, dedicated to Thin Lizzy, you can hear how bands like @mothershipusa , @wofatriffage , and @highonfireband take those timeless riffs and drag them through the desert, stretching them into something heavier and more hypnotic.
What really makes the series stand out is how it translates rather than imitates. By the time you hit the volumes dedicated to Deep Purple and Judas Priest, the reinterpretations become even more expansive. @quantumyob , for example, transforms familiar material into towering, almost spiritual soundscapes, while @bigscenicnowhere brings in that laid-back, sun-bleached groove that feels like it’s drifting somewhere between California and outer space.
The lineup across the series reads like a map of the modern heavy underground: @dueltexas , Goya, @highreeper , @heavytemple , and many more. Each band brings its own tone, its own weight, but there’s a shared sense of respect running through every track. You can tell this isn’t done for novelty—it’s done out of genuine love for the source material.
Production-wise, things stay raw and organic. Every band handles their track in their own way, which gives the whole series a loose, almost live energy—like flipping through different rehearsal rooms, each one louder than the last. It’s imperfect in the best possible way.
In the end, Bow to Your Masters works because it understands something fundamental: bands like Lizzy, Purple, and Priest didn’t just write classics—they laid the groundwork for everything that came after. This series feels like the next generation picking up that torch, running it through a wall of fuzz, and letting it burn.

Rehearsal recorded in a house in Yucca Valley two days prior to their Blak Box Theater show in Joshua Tree, CA on November 20th, 2021. This is the exact order of that set that night. Limited to 100 only on vinyl. No digital release. I had Tony Reed sign it for me before sending it to me.
