@bigskyarts has been keeping things busy this summer, from Music in the Mountains and Kids Art Camps to the Big Sky Artisan Festival, Indigikitchen, public art, classes and workshops.

At the heart of it all is the Big Sky Center for the Arts, which is helping the Arts Council grow while creating a space that belongs to the entire community. This is just a snapshot of what we’ve hosted in our space, but more importantly, our space is your space, too.

Whether it’s the Dirtbag Ball or a DEQ presentation, a baby shower or Best in Show, a flow arts expo or film festival, we love welcoming community partners through our doors. More than 60 organizations have helped us activate the building, bringing people together through art, education, music, events and more. The Center for the Arts is just getting started, and we’re excited to continue growing alongside the Big Sky community. by @bigskyarts

Last year, Día de Muertos brought the Big Sky Center for the Arts to life in a way we had hoped for from the beginning.

Our community came together to experience and learn about this meaningful Mexican holiday through music, dancing, art, food, remembrance, and tradition.

This year feels especially meaningful as Día de Muertos will be our FINAL large gatherings in the building before construction begins. We’re grateful to fill the Center one more time with a celebration we hope continues to grow and become a Big Sky tradition for years to come.

DÍA DE MUERTOS
Sunday, November 1
Noon–7 PM
Big Sky Center for the Arts
Free & open to everyone

Come celebrate! Experience the community altar, ofrenda-making, storytelling, Parade of Catrinas, food, dancing, music and more.

Big Sky Community Week was a great reminder of what makes this community special. It was a week full of creativity and connection, from making art together to sharing music and conversation.

We loved seeing the Big Sky Center for the Arts filled with community members and are so glad it could be a space for people to come together.

Thank you to the Big Sky Chamber and everyone who joined us throughout the week!

It’s officially October, and we’re ready to start celebrating Halloween and Día de Muertos at the Big Sky Center for the Arts!

Kick things off with our FREE Día de Muertos Art Workshop and learn the art of Cartonería, a traditional Mexican craft that uses paper, cardboard, and paste to create colorful, sculptural figures and masks.

During the FREE two-day workshop, choose what you’d like to create:
Calaca - a skeleton figure representing a loved one who has passed.
La Catrina - the iconic elegantly dressed skeleton and one of the most recognizable symbols of Día de Muertos.
Alebrije - a colorful, fantastical animal inspired by Mexican folk art.
Calavera mask - a wearable mask inspired by traditional sugar skull designs.

You’ll build your piece during the first session and decorate it during the second, while learning more about the history and symbolism of Día de Muertos. Then, bring your creation to our November 1 Día de Muertos celebration and Parade of Catrinas that is FREE and open to the public!

October 8 & 10
Thursday 6-8pm and Saturday 4-6pm
FREE. Ages 10+. 16 spots.

Participants must attend both sessions. Full workshop details, including materials and allergen information, are available through the registration link.
