Inspired by “The Fool” card in Tarot, I painted my own version called “Trust.” To me, it’s about stepping into the unknown before you know how everything will unfold. It’s about being willing to be a clumsy beginner again. About listening to that quiet voice inside that says “do it” even when part of you is terrified 😅 Because honestly…growth never really feels comfortable.

Every piece of this painting became symbolic of that journey for me. The deer represents listening to intuition. The mountain lion, inner strength. The rabbit, the vulnerability it takes to leap before you feel fully ready. Butterflies speak to transformation, while the hawk reminds us that sometimes we are being guided by something capable of seeing a much bigger picture than we can.

This painting feels especially meaningful to me right now because I am about to take a leap of my own.

Over the next few months, I’ll be launching a podcast called “Signs from the Universe.” It’s a podcast about synchronicity, intuition, and the mysterious ways Spirit speaks to us throughout our lives. The more I’ve paid attention to the signs in my own life, the more profound and undeniable they’ve become. (I have some truly wild stories of synchronicity and cannot wait to hear yours!)

So here I go…stepping off the cliff.

If you want to follow this next chapter — astrology, synchronicity, art, intuition, the podcast, and all the other parts of me — come join me at @_signsfromtheuniverse ✨

It’s such a big moment to oil a piece! It’s always a bit scary as it changes everything. Slowly but surely, this piece is coming to life more and more. Will be working on the base soon!

There is always so much wisdom in nature. It’s where I look to for my answers. With so much going on in the world, I needed an image to work with. Something that gave me hope and strength. And then this image came…

The mountain lion does not lead with force but with her presence. Not by being loud, performative, or angry, but through grounded unwavering strength. She holds steady through uncertainty and protects what is wild and young. I believe that we can do the same in this time of great change… and for now, this painting gives me hope. It reminds me of the truth of what I strive for and how I want to navigate moving forward to lead the next generation.

But for now, I need a name for it. Any ideas for a name for this painting?

I haven’t worked on this painting in years. It’s of my legendary cat that was taken by a mountain lion in the early morning right next to my bedroom just a few years ago. I’ve noticed that I rarely like to finish paintings that I started in grief….but now, years later, I want to have this animal guide with me always in a field of catnip.🌿

Many more details before it is finished. by @bigsurbutterfly

This was such a fun painting to dive back into paint again. I always need a fairly easy fun painting to just get back in it before getting back into more technical work. Now that I started painting again I can’t stop!!!

This painting needed something. It didn’t quite capture the magic of Mt Shasta… until I added the orbs. Much better now😂

When I was deciding whether or not to follow the call to create a podcast on synchronicity, called “Signs from the Universe”… I of course asked for a sign. For me, one of my most potent signs is a red shouldered hawk. Not a red tail but a red shouldered hawk. I also wanted to see it going from left to right (my signal from the universe of a resounding yes… and yes I ask for things to be that specific😂) I gave it about 5 days but didn’t see my signal. At that time I was assisting Deva (@devamunay) in a sound workshop at Esalen when she had Penny at age 97 come recite poetry. Of all places I chose to sit, it was in this moment that it struck me. Behind Penny’s profound words (the poetry of Hafiz) was my sign… going from left to right with the words of encouragement right in front of me (my own painting just so happened to be positioned directly behind her!) This is not how I expected my sign but I knew by the words she was saying that something in me had to do this. Sign received. Also Deva was wearing a pair of my red shouldered hawk earrings to double down on the sign 😉

Here are the beautiful words of the Hafiz poem:

We have not come here to take prisoners,
But to surrender ever more deeply
To freedom and joy.

We have not come into this exquisite world
To hold ourselves hostage from love.

Run my dear,
From anything
That may not strengthen
Your precious budding wings.

Run like hell my dear,
From anyone likely
To put a sharp knife
Into the sacred, tender vision
Of your beautiful heart.

We have a duty to befriend
Those aspects of obedience
That stand outside of our house
And shout to our reason
“O please, O please,
Come out and play.”

For we have not come here to take prisoners
Or to confine our wondrous spirits,

But to experience ever and ever more deeply
Our divine courage, freedom and
Light! by @bigsurbutterfly

There have been many animals in my studio over the years. This is the tip of the iceberg. Dogs, cats, bunnies, injured chipmunks, birds and lizards, butterflies, lots of baby chickens, and a turkey just to name a few. They are what bring me so much joy and inspiration and are part of the magic. So grateful for this wild life. by @bigsurbutterfly

16 years ago today, I met my now husband on the side of the road where we found this bunny…. A domesticated bunny on the side of the road in Big Sur. 🤯…. But the story only gets crazier as time passed. This painting I did for him when we were first together later became the most insane synchronicity of my life. If you haven’t already, please listen to this very wild story which is the first episode of my “Signs from the Universe” podcast. It’s a good one✨🐇💫

This may not be my best painting ever, but it is by far the most meaningful one I have ever done because of what transpired next…

I hope you listen!

Oh how I love you so deeply Big Sur. If you haven’t checked out Scott and Molly on episode 4 of my “Signs from the Universe” podcast, you should definitely listen. They tell a story of struggle to abundance beyond their wildest dreams. I too have created such a beautiful life here and am so grateful for this land and community.

Check out Episode 4!

And this is a painting I did over 10 years ago. One of my many favorite views😍

Maybe we are all just caterpillars not realizing the potential for wings has been within us all along. All I know is the old me is fading away… or maybe I should say the me that I thought I needed to be in the world. The one trying to live up to trying to please everyone. But maybe, just maybe all we need to do is be our true selves which just might have been the one with wings all along.

This is an older painting of mine that has sold but I’d like to come back to this style of mandalas. by @bigsurbutterfly

It’s is with deep honor that I present this next episode of the Signs from the Universe Podcast with a dear soul sister, Medina Dugger. @medinaduggerart

While Big Sur is on fire and the eclipse is over us today, I assure you that in a world of uncertainty, you will feel more connected to your own magic after listening.

The second photo is the blue heron I saw (I’ve never seen one in the Big Sur River before) just days before reconnecting with Medina. I would later discover that this is one of her spirit animals.✨

More photos from this episode to come and photos from her stories that are absolutely wild!
