When I was deciding whether or not to follow the call to create a podcast on synchronicity, called “Signs from the Universe”… I of course asked for a sign. For me, one of my most potent signs is a red shouldered hawk. Not a red tail but a red shouldered hawk. I also wanted to see it going from left to right (my signal from the universe of a resounding yes… and yes I ask for things to be that specific😂) I gave it about 5 days but didn’t see my signal. At that time I was assisting Deva (@devamunay) in a sound workshop at Esalen when she had Penny at age 97 come recite poetry. Of all places I chose to sit, it was in this moment that it struck me. Behind Penny’s profound words (the poetry of Hafiz) was my sign… going from left to right with the words of encouragement right in front of me (my own painting just so happened to be positioned directly behind her!) This is not how I expected my sign but I knew by the words she was saying that something in me had to do this. Sign received. Also Deva was wearing a pair of my red shouldered hawk earrings to double down on the sign 😉

Here are the beautiful words of the Hafiz poem:

We have not come here to take prisoners,
But to surrender ever more deeply
To freedom and joy.

We have not come into this exquisite world
To hold ourselves hostage from love.

Run my dear,
From anything
That may not strengthen
Your precious budding wings.

Run like hell my dear,
From anyone likely
To put a sharp knife
Into the sacred, tender vision
Of your beautiful heart.

We have a duty to befriend
Those aspects of obedience
That stand outside of our house
And shout to our reason
“O please, O please,
Come out and play.”

For we have not come here to take prisoners
Or to confine our wondrous spirits,

But to experience ever and ever more deeply
Our divine courage, freedom and
Light!

Episode 2 is out! Listen to Jackie’s incredible story of developing her intuition and a few synchronicities along the way. There was so much more we wanted to talk about so she is sure to be back on a future episode, but until then, enjoy!

Also, please follow the show and leave a review (if you like it 😉)

Also, if you have a story of wild synchronicity, please message me to possibly be a guest on the show or have your story shared!

Thanks!

At 97, Penny Vieregge—known to many as Damaris—continues to offer what she has always carried: presence, devotion, and the courage to let poetry open the heart.

In this moment, she shares Troubled by Hafiz, translated by Daniel Ladinsky—
a poem that reminds us that love is not a problem to be solved, but a fire that keeps asking us to stay.

Hafiz speaks of the heart being stirred awake—
of a sacred kind of trouble that cracks us open
so something truer can move through.

Penny has been part of @esalen Institute since the very beginning—a dear friend of co-founder Dick Price and a living bridge between Esalen’s origins and its ongoing inquiry into human potential.

This February, within the Esalen container, she will join us for one special session—
a devotional duet of voice and alchemy crystal singing bowls, where poetry, sound, and listening become a shared practice.

Attuning to Love: A Sonic Sanctuary for Your Heart unfolds over five days overlooking the Pacific—
an exploration of resonance, embodiment, and the intelligence of the heart.

Here she goes again… time is not a linear thing. When I think back on ‘2024’ I can’t without recalling the past couple or so. Moving to Wyoming for me was such a last minute, unexpected whirlwind that I’m just catching up with myself after a year. We know the soul takes time to catch up with the body.

This first photo is from my last trip down to Big Sur with my beloved 2006 dodge sprinter. My goal for having that van was to frequent Big Sur & to make it up to Vancouver island, which ended up turning into a 6 month trip - & leading me to Wyoming for the first time.

When I sold her, I got a ticket to Australia for a friends wedding, got an airbnb in Byron for a month, used it to pay for rent in Ventura for a few months, & bought myself a bunch of natural fiber, organic, small-scale production clothing & natural dye materials. That decision has now turned into a full blown fascination, research project, & curation of fine fibers.

Out here in Wyoming, it’s strange to be stripped of what I hve so heavily identified with for the past 14/15 years. Surfing, beach mornings, abundance of farmers markets and fresh produce in California… & I’m finding a new.

My days feel less ideal than they did at home most of the time & it’s taken me some time to figure out what I even like to do here up at 6,000ft…. But I’m learning.

I finally had one this year, 2025… & what did it look like? Woke up, bought some sweaters to share with you all, dog church (aka the park), danced in my room to clear energy, ice skated, swam, sauna, more dog walking with neighbors, coffee shop to update my website, dog walking under starry skies, cooked, watched ugly Betty & slept.

Not having surfing, not being a skier, ice skating has been a way for me to find some flow. To be excited about growing a skill that feels so cool in the body & connects you with the outdoors. & to be really honest, finally having something that makes me excited to face the day- that flow state is so dang important to creativity.

It’s been a long year- that feels short- but lifetimes of learning. So happy 2025, to knowing what makes you feel content, tired, balanced & connected.

Thanks for being here 🌎

I don’t know about you, but Halloween decorations just come naturally to me. 😮‍💨The decorating happens on its own.
