EARTH WASN’T ALWAYS CALLED EARTH,
(A MONUMENT TO HEALTHY SOILS)
Ljubljana, Slovenia, 2026

A collaboration with Luka Murovec and Dr. Martina Modic from the Institute Jožef Štefan.

Commissioned by MAO Museum of Architecture and Design and ELES

This monument to healthy soils takes the form of three stacked spheres, symbolizing the three fundamental layers of soil—topsoil, subsoil, and parent material. Rising like a geological column, the sculpture highlights the hidden yet essential foundation that sustains life above.

Positioned within the forrest of the nature center in Ljubliana , the structure serves as both a landmark and an educational piece, inviting visitors to reflect on the often-overlooked world beneath their feet. Its form speaks to balance, resilience, and the layered history embedded in the land we stand on.

VANDALISM - A Social Sculpture

Only the western side of the wall was covered in graffiti.

As an outsider who has called Berlin home for many years, I still hold onto the romantic tension between East and West Germany—the contrast between the socialist vision embodied in public ceramics and the city’s wild, contemporary graffiti culture. This artwork was two years in the making, but its concept began nearly 20 years ago, when I first arrived in Berlin. —

Organizing and directing the painting with Akim brought together a broad spectrum of artists from Berlin’s graffiti scene. The gathering itself became a spontaneous event. More than six generations of graffiti writers took part, their diverse styles converging into a single composition.

My work “The Fathers of the Nation” currently included in the exhibition “AK-JOL (stories of solidarity)” a traveling exhibition inspired by the nomadic traditions of Kyrgyzstan, at Haus der Visionäre in Berlin . Sound on for slide 8.

Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan

The monumental sculpture by T. Sadykov entitled, “The Fathers of the Nation” originally contained many life sized bronze portraits of influential citizens from Bishkek. Over the years, these bronze portraits started to mysteriously disappear. Most people believe the portraits were stolen, only to be sold for the value of the scrap metal.

While in Bishkek, after discovering the origin of this monument, I decided to replace the missing sculptures with living people from Bishkek. With the help of a local research team we managed to identify the names of those that were portrayed, and tracked down Kyrgyz professionals who work in the same field as those that were stolen. Three Writers, three Doctors, two Geologists, one Poet, Film-maker, Politician, Composer, and one Opera Singer.
