Formerly Bike Bros, after 23 years, 13 time “Best Bike Shop in Canada”, now The Indy Cyclist, a YouTube channel & Graham’s new bike based project
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I’m loving the messages from people who are shocked to see me on E. It’s something I never would have imagined either. While running the shop, if I was able to ride 6 hours in a week I was thrilled and there was no way you could pry me off my bike for those precious rides.
..
Then as “end of pro deal days” approached, I figured I’d grab an ebike with a vague idea that it might be useful for access to trail building areas that would be pretty brutal dragging Macleods or chainsaws to on my mebike.
..
Then after the ebike sat for a month because I had zero interest in it, I tried it and realized how much of a training tool it could be. I’ve struggled to do base miles: can’t stand the trainer and even on a gravel bike to fight the urge to push hard on climbs is impossible. My fitness suffered. Great VO2 from bouncing my heart rate of the limit multiple times per ride, but FTP sucked from my riding habits and getting worse because of age. I have no durability so ride days over an hour and I’m suffering: especially with cramps: don’t get me started on how full of shit I think the electrolytes myth might be.
..
Now that I can imagine a wide open calendar to ride bikes, I can also imagine digging a deep hole where my fitness goes to shit because I don’t get any recovery time, and no sub anaerobic rides: enter the Emtb.
..
When I realized I could go for a 2 hour ride, get 3 fast descents, work on my descent skills and my highest heart rate would be reached during the descents: that was exciting.
..
So, ironically, the ebike may play a role in me finally improving my fitness to be able to imagine racing enduro or BCBR again (and not on an ebike) without it being miserable… the ebike will hopefully help me get fit enough to not need the ebike. taken in Blairmore, Alberta by @bikebros

This thing is a piece of art shaped like a bicycle. I honestly bought this because I was in love with the polished raw aluminum… so I justified purchasing it as my freeride/park bike. I don’t suspect the dudes at @eskercycles designed it for that, but chuck a @ridefoxbike 38 fork at it, @raceface Turbine wheels, @michelinbicycle enduro/dh tires and the new @shimanomtb XT brakes and drivetrain and #saintpedals and it really does turn this into a short travel freeride bike ready for whatever hucking a 145/160mm travel bike can handle…
I guess I’ll have to start practicing for Redbull Rampage 2027 and hope by then they have a 55+ Pre Beginner class. taken in West Bragg Creek Trail Head by @bikebros

Have I mentioned my love of wheel building? How’s about my love of fine quality bits like @industry_nine hydra hubs, @garbaruk_components cassettes, @maxxistires, @galferbike rotors, @stansnotubes rims & @sapim_official spokes.

I’ve been feeling the pressure… get a video up on the YouTube machine to show I’ve doubled me effort from 1% to 2% in creating something worth watching. This is going to be a challenge for a non-techy person. A strategy to self film to add more visual interest (and illustrate some ride impressions) to bike reviews and other content… today was trying things with the GoPro and quite the letdown… that’ll be relegated to POV footage. #selffilming On the bright side, I got multiple laps of some favourite sections of trail and turned a 1hour loop into 2hours and got some trail running in ;) taken in Blairmore, Alberta by @bikebros

Don’t mind me… just over here building personal dream bikes.
..
This is my Freeride bike… because I’ll never freeride anything requiring more than 145mm rear, 160mm front of squish.
…
Otherwise, piles of new Shimano bits including Saint Pedals… which look amazing. @rideshimano the @canecreekusa kitsuma shock should be fun to play with too. I already know I like the @eskercycles Orion suspension design from my time on the Rowl. This is gonna be rad! taken in The Indy Cyclist by @bikebros

“Entry level bikes “. Now Better than 12 year old fancy bikes with XT drivetrains, Avid brakes, Float 32 forks… literally everything works better on these modern bargain bikes and would go much longer between services. @giantbicyclecanada @giantbicycles taken in The Indy Cyclist by @bikebros

Day 1 after “closing”. What do we do? Go riding with Rob, the service writer. We’d honestly be thrilled to be riding with all the staff going many years back. We’ve been lucky enough to work with such a great group of people over the years: love you all and thank you!
..
Over the next month Andrea and I plan to be open on Fridays and Saturdays, with the chance of the open sign getting flipped on during random times we’re inside cleaning up.
..
Philip and Rob are taking this rare (in a bike shop) opportunity to take hot weather vacations in August. Erik is already making plans and John already found a “retired guy” job even closer to his house. Brett will have more time to fix Andra’s bike and be on Dad duty. Thanks again guys.
