On my 79th birthday, I’m on a flight to Washington DC to give keynote remarks at a law enforcement leaders event.

56 years ago tomorrow, on Oct. 7, 1970, I joined the Boston Police Department—beginning my police career. I’m privileged to still be associated with and still contributing to #TheProfession I’m so proud of.

I would like to thank Chairman Emeritus Cherrie Doggett and Chief Kevin Davis for the invitation  to speak at the HEROES CHIEFS Dinner at the Hays-Adams Hotel tonight. by @billbratton

A choking infant. A family facing every parent’s worst nightmare. And NYPD officers who moved with urgency, skill, and compassion to save that child’s life.

This is what New York’s Finest do: they step forward when every second counts and make a difference that will stay with a family forever. Their actions remind us why #CopsCountPoliceMatter. by @billbratton

I recently joined my longtime friend and colleague, Craig Floyd, on the Heroes Behind the Badge podcast for a wide-ranging conversation about policing, leadership, Broken Windows, the “defund the police” movement, community trust, and the personal toll the job can take on those who serve.

Craig has spent decades honoring and advocating for law enforcement, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my experiences and perspective with him.

Watch two-part conversation on YouTube.

Great to have a wonderful dinner at Elios Restaurant on the Upper East Side with our great friend and my professional colleague, CNN Correspondent John Miller.

John served with me as my Deputy Commissioner twice in the NYPD and as a Deputy Chief in the LAPD. Rikki and I had a great time, and as always, a lot of laughs and wonderful shared memories. by @billbratton

Police Officer Irma Lozada was 25 years old when she was shot and killed in the line of duty — a brave New York City Transit cop. Today marks 42 years since that tragic day. We will #NeverForget. by @billbratton

On #ThankAPoliceOfficerDay, we reflect on the courageous, compassionate work our cops did just today alone.

Let us all also be grateful for the dedication of these honorable men and women every day. 🫡🙏🇺🇸

Today, 25 years later, we remember together — as rescuers, survivors, families, and Americans — and renew our solemn vow to #NeverForget those taken on 9/11 and to the illnesses that followed.

#September11th demonstrated that even in our darkest hour, the ideals of our great nation and the resolve of the American people will always rise from the ashes. by @billbratton

ABC 7 NY’s look at Lower Manhattan during their news broadcast 25 years ago tonight, reminds us to pray for all those tragically killed on 9/11 who kissed their loved ones goodnight for the last time — and our fallen hero 1st responders. #NeverForget by @billbratton

Their names are etched into the Hall of Heroes. Their legacies live on in those who continue their important work.

The NYPD’s new Memorial Wall is a powerful tribute to the members of the Department lost on September 11 and the many more taken by 9/11-related illnesses in the years since.

Twenty-five years later, we honor their courage, remember their sacrifice, and remain forever grateful to the families. by @billbratton

While in London this week for a dinner meeting at the House of Lords in Parliament with my Commission members of the Police Leadership Commission (we issued our report and recommendations last month after a 9-month study and review), I also had the opportunity to visit New Scotland Yard, where I met with my good friend and colleague @metpolice_uk Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley.

We discussed a number of issues both of our countries are facing including drones, AI, cyber crime, facial recognition, license plate reader systems, and a growing concern in Britain about the early release of many convicted violent offenders due to prison overcrowding, and failure to put them back into prison when many of them commit new crimes. It was as very informative visit. I very much appreciated his hospitality. by @billbratton
