Here are two more ideas to help with expiration dates if you’re going to decant baking ingredients…

First, you could still do what I did and use a dry erase marker on the bottom. Wait for it to dry before putting the container back on the shelf. 🙌

Don’t have a dry erase marker?

➡️ Write the expiration date on a sticky note and tape it to the bottom.

Have extra time, feeling a little Type A, or don’t want to worry about reading your handwriting?

➡️ Use a label maker and print out the exact date. Then, stick it on the container where you’ll remember to check.

✨ But if this is too much work…

Maybe putting almond flour in a pop container isn’t for you and that’s okay too.

Not gonna lie…

It’s better than an end table because I can fold it up and put it away.

As a professional organizer and minimalist, this foldable tray doesn’t add furniture to my home.

Let’s be clear: I will NEVER ask a client if an item “sparks joy”.

Joy is a feeling. And feelings change! What sparked joy today might just be taking up valuable space today.

So instead, here is what I ask when we are deciding wether to keep or donate an item:

“Has this served you well?”

I have had clients hold up a well worn hand towel and say, “I just don’t know what to do with this! I feel guilty letting it go.”

And I simply ask, “Has it served you well?”

In other words:
• Has this item benefited you over the years?
• Has it done its job for what you needed?
• Is it worn out and ready for retirement?

9 times of out of 10, my client will hold the item, acknowledge that it served them well, and feel complete permission to let it go.

(And hey, if you really need pure joy in your life today, I can always share pictures of Moose and Maui! 🐾

Next time you’re stuck on an item, ask how it has served you to this point. Let the item serve someone else in their current season, and keep only what is serving you for the season you are in right now.

Believe it or not here’s what I found…

🤢 moldy jalapeños

🤢 expired ground beef I forgot to freeze (and yes I opened it to make sure it was still good and it smelled awful!)

🤢 a mushy apple

🤢 a very sad squishy tomato

As a profession organizer I try to stay on top of our food in the fridge, but life can get busy.

So, this is your reminder to clean out the veggie, fruit, meat, and cheese drawers of your fridge and then check everything for expiration dates.

You never know what you might find that you forgot about.

It happens the second you walk through the door…

The bag hits the floor, the keys get tossed, and the sunglasses land on the kitchen counter while the mail gets set down “just for a second”.

Before you know it, your kitchen counter has turned into the ultimate landing zone and you tell yourself “I’ll get to that later.”

The secret to keeping clear surfaces isn’t spending hours organizing. It’s actually about shifting one tiny habit.

Next time you come home, repeat after me: Don’t put it down, put it away.

It takes 10 extra steps to hang up the bag and drop your keys in their designated spot, but the mental peace of walking into a clear space? Entirely worth it.

Locked into Sealook which honestly surprised me because our dogs could care less about anything on the TV.

Apparently the colors in the show are ones that dogs can see and are interested in. Plus, the sounds and music helps keep their attention.

This is going to be perfect for thunder storms and when we leave so our fur babies aren’t so anxious.

Thanks Netflix!

So here’s what happened ⤵️

The pool table was contracted into our home when we bought it in 2016.

At the time, we thought it would be fun and something we could use when friends and family came over.

But I can count on one hand the number of times we’ve actually used it to play pool.

More often than not, I used this large table to fold laundry and sheets or record content.

Over a year ago, I talked to my husband about considering selling the pool table so we can make the basement area what we want it to be now and for the future.

The crazy thing is I prayed for this.

Last September I asked the Lord that if we were to get rid of the pool table, it would come from Ryan. And that’s exactly what happened.

It took time for him to think about it and plan what else we could do with this space but he agreed all on his own.

You see, I didn’t force him to get rid of it. And I certainly didn’t get rid of it without his knowledge. I mean, you can’t really sneak out a pool table in the middle of night while he’s sleeping.

So, hear me when I say decluttering your home to create the space you want for the season you are in now and the future is possible.

Decluttering is a process. And processes take time.
