On la connaissait créatrice de mode à Marrakech. Mina Binebine dévoile aujourd’hui un nouveau pan de sa créativité : des tableaux entièrement composés de boutons, cousus à la main par milliers.

Tout commence il y a quelques années, dans une rue de la ville, où elle rachète d’un coup le tonneau d’une femme assise à même le trottoir.
D’abord cousus sur ses vêtements, ces boutons reviennent un jour la chercher sur la toile : onze mille neuf cents pour la première pièce, un mois et demi de travail méticuleux, presque rituel. « Un bouton seul, ce n’est rien. Ensemble, ça devient une armure. »

Trois toiles déjà nées dans son atelier, dont deux vendues dès le soir du vernissage.

As part of Maison ACH's exhibition during 1-54 Marrakech, fashion designer Mina Binebine told Morocco World News (MWN) about her transition to contemporary art using 10,000 hand-sewn buttons on fabric mounted on wood.

"I have issues with abandonment," Binebine explained. "When I cut fabric to make clothes, there's still a bit left on the floor and I don't want to leave them" unused.

The daughter of renowned Moroccan painter and writer Mahi Binebine transforms fabric remnants into buttons, stating "I'm sure they have something else to say" and deserve "another life to live" through artistic expression.

"Every button sewed together creates maybe like an armor," she noted. "I don't want people to see what I want to see" but rather allow viewers to interpret the emotional significance freely.

As part of 1-54 Marrakech programming, Maison ACH presented "Contemporary Dialogues: Soul Fabric" at their Sidi Ghanem industrial quarter location, featuring multiple artists including Keya, Mina Binebine, Chama Chraibi, and Amadou Dieng from Art First Gallery.

The group exhibition created visual conversations between distinct artistic voices, where luminous textures, sculptural forms, and layered narratives intertwined through color, material, and meaning in the architecture firm's gallery space on Saturday evening.

Fashion designer Mina Binebine contributed her debut contemporary artworks using 10,000 hand-sewn buttons on fabric, joining other artists in exploring identity and memory through contemporary Moroccan art in this collaborative showcase.
