I always forget to take photos of these events, so here's me last Saturday at Lindfield at the annual art show. It was a lovely day, got to chat with lots of new faces, even sold some work!
What made the day even more special was the fact that @gordonripleyart was showing his paintings right next to me and my best chum @clairballantyneart was right beside us with her work! Going to work with my favourite people 🥰

A week or so ago I dropped off some of my creations to this wonderful new emporium/gallery on Lewes High Street @liefcollective, It's filled with glorious art and handmade items by local artists, the kind of retail outlet where I could easily buy everything! Come and have a look and after you've had a browse and shop you can pop into @taithcoffee right next door for a great cuppa and the best high street view over The South Downs. Its also venue 97 on the Artwave trail open weekends in September. Thank you @lintandlabel for inviting me to join this creative bunch!

Hello instagram and all you hot potatoes out there, are you coping OK in the heat? Today is the first day in a couple of weeks that I haven't felt completely overcome, it doesn't feel quite as hot inside although the thermometer says 32 - I really don't do well over 25°.
Maybe I'm just getting used to it 😂 🥵

New painting, mixed media.
70x70cm
Enjoy the 🌞 folks!

ART MARKET — Meet the Artist #2: Bernadette Baker🎨

As we continue our countdown to the February Art Market, today’s artist spotlight introduces another newcomer to Victoria Pavilion Arts — Bernadette Baker.

Bernadette’s work explores the often-overlooked beauty of wild flora, particularly the dry grassland species of the South Coast. Using a combination of acrylic painting, screen printing and collage, she creates both large-scale and miniature works rich in texture and detail.
She frequently works on natural wood supports rather than canvas or paper, allowing the grain and raw surface to become an integral part of each piece — adding depth, warmth and character to the finished work.

🌿 Discover Bernadette’s work at the Art Market:

🗓 Sunday 15 February

⏰ 10am–4pm

📍 Victoria Pavilion, Victoria Pleasure Ground, Uckfield

✨ More artist spotlights coming soon — stay tuned!

Pretending here like I didn't know I was blending in with the background. This is the kind of sad thing that gives me a lot of pleasure, like when the colour of the bag of crisps I'm eating is the same shade of blue as the socks I'm wearing, which is also the same blue as that car I'm standing next to... does that make sense? Can't you tell my eyes are welling up from the emotion 😂
Any road, I got painting during the first week of the school hols. It was too hot for me to go outside (hate the heat), so I channelled the sea views I remembered from Devon: wild, country beaches with cliffy bits and dry, scrubby bits. But as it was July, it was pretty green still, so that's what went into the 2 large, blousey paintings. They had clouds to start with but it felt too busy so I got rid of them and now I much prefer the simpler sky. Soft, earthy, 'William Morris' colours which are always my go-to.

The smaller pair of paintings are more reminiscent of the landscapes around here in Sussex in the summer — Postman Pat land, gentle curves and bleached fields with the odd bentaway-from-the-wind tree. But they also look like big mountains of custard, which is also alright, as I really like a hill to look like it wants a big bite taken out of it.

Back to school this week. It's been a proper Summer with all sorts of outdoor shenanigans, and not one jacket or sock was ever wore — just flimsy things and fans and factor 50.
Bonne rentrée, mes amis!

Chopped wooden offcuts act as mini stages for my favourite kind of summer skies, dark and filled with threat of a storm. Inspired by a recent visit to the Devon and Dorset coasts where the skies were surprisingly blue and clear for a change.

Sold. Chunky enough to stand on its own but there's a hook on the back to hang it, I love the drama of pink against black, one of my fave colour combos.
This one is coming with me to Brighton girls school in May for Artists open houses, details of dates to follow.
