It goes without saying that Black maternal health deserves more than a week…. And every day our work is centered in providing support for midwives , birth workers and the families and communities they serve .

BFF has supported hundreds of Black birth workers and plan to increase that number exponentially because they deserve all the love and care we can provide .

BFF is proud to have given away $291,500 in just 3 years of grantmaking to support midwives, student midwives, doulas, and community organizations across the USA. Founded in 2020, our first grants went out in 2022. We are growing every year, and as a grassroots foundation, YOU power this liberation work. So honored to share this powerful piece by midwife, educator, and visionary Tanya Smith-Johnson. Her work has been a guiding light for me, and she is my friend. Her words in this essay illuminate a truth too many people overlook —the maternal health crisis in the Deep South is urgent, and it’s been ignored for far too long.

Tanya is one of the founders of @birthfuture, the organization @babyyamsquilts supports. BFF supports midwives, families, and the communities most impacted by the US maternal health crisis. Thank you @birthfuture!
I shared my journey and my dreams to create more resources that we need in the Hampton Roads community, and they heard me. I stand ten toes down on food as medicine and honoring ancestral foodways. There's so much richness to remember and continue as we heal and bring in future generations. I'm thankful for this grant, and Birth Future Fund's pointed acknowledgement of caring for the caregiver. This grant is much needed for some self care- community care! I'm excited for my upcoming Perinatal Nutrition Classes with an in-person demonstration day, and many more opportunities to nurture bellies and babies in the Hampton Roads area 🩷🐣 by @birthfuture

We are so excited to announce our annual event …but this year it’s more than just that it’s our 5 year anniversary !! So come celebrate with us !!

This year has been so hard in more ways than one, but we have so much and so many to celebrate . Trust us .. it will help keep us in the light in dark times.

We will celebrate the over 200 birth workers we have granted to, funded and poured into .

We will share all the great work we have done and plan to continue to do in the future .

We will be in community with each other and have a good time while doing so. Because Anyone who has come to our annual event leaves feeling fuller, better and more nourished than before . This year is no exception.. and we have 5 years of light to share and bask in.

So join us and see what a tiny yet mighty team can do when we have YOU at the center and in our hearts.

We are who we’ve been waiting on and we will celebrate all the good work being done all over the country to make our birth future bright.

Okkk y’all…. We want to make sure you are aware that you have 1 more day to apply for the Watering the Seeds Grant . Time is zooming and That went by fast !
