The last 3 years of my life have been a whirlwind, to say the least!

November 2023 - I got married.
December 2023 - I gave birth to my son.
January 2024 - I completed my certification to become a Birth Doula.

Since then, I feel like I’ve been playing catch up and just going through the motions of what life throws at me. Between dealing with grief, unexpected loss, traveling, the stressors of day to day life and prioritizing family, it can sometimes be hard to notice the glimpses of all you’ve achieved.
I’m finally in a place now where I want to — and can — focus more on my wants, needs, desires and dreams. I truly do work so hard. I have so much to offer and am actively figuring out how to do that while also being the best version of myself I can be. Here are a few things I think are worthy of sharing, as a reminder to never forget about yourself amidst the things life asks of you.🤍

The advocacy, the community, and the care I experienced during my second birth opened my eyes to what’s possible when we are respected and treated with dignity. Years of advocating led me to create @BabyYamsQuilts, which I launched during #BlackMaternalHealthWeek two years ago! Thats right, Baby Yams turns three this week!

Community-led solutions are being built right now. The care is holistic and the outcomes are excellent. When a Black woman is cared for properly during this time in her life Im telling you it changes your expectation of treatment in every area of your life. That’s why a portion of Baby Yams proceeds goes toward supporting Black and Indigenous doulas and midwives. Every Baby Yams quilt is a covering. They tell the story of our joy and triumph.

This week is a reminder that we already have what we need. We just have to pull all of our resources and talents together to build it. We deserve it.

Sat down with @paolopresta and had the loveliest conversation about Aszi and the Octopus, motherhood, activism, and yes… a little Fresh Prince nostalgia too!

What really touched me was when Paolo surprised me with a $500 donation to @birthfuture from him and his husband. So thoughtful and so generous. Moments like that remind me how many people truly care about supporting birth workers and healthier futures for families ♥️🙏🏾

The Birth By Queens family is continuing to grow. On the last day of January we celebrate our 2 new babies that made us safely Earthside. We also want to acknowledge the families that received lactation and postpartum support. If January is any indication of what's to come.

🌱 Day 98 of 1,000 | 1000 Days Campaign

In 2025, we held 43 virtual parent support sessions, creating space for learning, support, and connection — and those sessions are part of something so much bigger.

To date, we’ve served 600+ families worldwide through education, advocacy, and hands-on support. From local rooms to global reach, the ripple keeps growing.

And we’re just getting started.

Our 2026 Goals:

✨ Expand access to culturally responsive birth & postpartum education

✨ Reach every Queens neighborhood and beyond

✨ Deepen community partnerships

✨ Build sustainable systems so families aren’t just supported — they’re centered

Sending a very special thank you this morning to @birthfuture for our very first grant award for providing community-based doula services in 2025! This year I provided prenatal, birth and postpartum support for 13 families, served as a back up/secondary doula for 5, and volunteered at numerous maternal and infant health focused community events. With a proven track record of assisting nonprofit organizations & research teams in grant funding, receiving this one means the MOST to me!!! ✨

I am deeply honored and grateful to share that I’ve been chosen as a recipient of the Watering the Seeds: Doula Edition Grant from the Birth Future Foundation.

This grant is more than financial support, it is a recognition of the heart-work, advocacy, and dedication poured into birth justice, midwifery-aligned care, and community-rooted support for wombmen and families.

To be acknowledged by an organization committed to transforming the birth landscape means the world. It affirms the mission of Healing Wombman Collective:
🌿 to protect and empower birthing people
🌿 to restore sacred connection to body + lineage
🌿 to support families through trauma-informed, culturally-honoring, holistic care
🌿 to plant seeds of healing for the next generation of womb healers

I received news that made me sit completely still… the kind of stillness where your spirit understands before your mind does.

✨ I was awarded the 2025 Bloom Grant ✨
A gift I didn’t apply for. A recognition I didn’t expect.

I felt like someone whispered “keep going” right when I needed it.

To the creator and those whispering guidance, to MY family who continues to understand “l’m on call’, to every family who has trusted me… every mentor who poured into me… every friend who anchored me… to every person who has encouraged me, you are part of this moment. Thank you! I’m forever grateful.

2025 came in and didn't play with me from basically pushing me into midwifery while still completing my yoga therapy training. I was trying to grab hold of what I was doing, not realizing people do watch you lol. 🧘🏾‍♀️
I got the email from @birthfuture awarding me a grant for doing work in the community. I know I joke saying at this point I'm being obedient, but God has truly blessed me since I told Him yes. Thank you, Birth Future, @tatyanaali, and @babyyamsquilts for seeing every black doula, black student midwife, and black midwife doing the work and breaking barriers in maternal health. Driving all over Alabama to provide access to midwifery care is truly a blessing. ✨️
