On February 10, 2026, at 2:16 a.m., a mother’s life changed forever.

Denise Marie Scott answered a phone call from the Louisiana East Carroll Parish River Bend Detention Center—only to be told, with little compassion or explanation, that her son, Deavon Jaheim Scott, was deceased.

When she asked what happened, she was told: “I can’t give you that information.”
When she asked where her son was, she was directed elsewhere.
When she sought answers, she was met with delays, silence, and uncertainty.

At 2:33 a.m., she called the hospital searching for answers—only to be told they could not release any information.
She was forced to wait hours.
Her calls went unanswered.

And when she finally received a response, the explanation was vague: a reported seizure, based only on internal footage that has not been released.

Since that day, no clear evidence, no full report, and no transparency have been provided.

A life was lost.
A mother was left searching in the dark.
And the truth still has not been fully revealed.

Deavon Scott was to be in court Tuesday February the 10th, instead his family received a call saying he died while being housed at Riverbend detention center. 3a.m. I woke up feeling contractions. Manageable for a moment. My husband ran the shower and I stood in the shower and labored for a few hours. I notified my midwives but it was at about 5am so no one answered I left a voicemail. I received a call almost three hours later. In those three hours I didn’t lay down once after the shower I sat on the yoga ball and rolled my hips and leaned forward on the couch. Looking back my instincts carried me. When the midwifery finally gave me a call back at about 7:30 am we immediately left. We managed to get Demi to daycare. Had we not taken her we would’ve made it. After dropping Demi off we were about 25 min away from the midwifery. Contraction still consistent even more intense but not half as bad as the Pitocin contractions. The care ride was a bit of a blur but I know my family was on FaceTime everyone wanted to be there as best as they could. With my family in the phone I felt Aris head pads my sacrum and at the opening of my vagina. I looked at my husband and told him “you have to pull over now”. We were 5 min away. He looked at me like can it wait a little longer but before he could ask I said “ I fell her head at the opening of my vagina with the next contraction she coming. The contraction was so painful I lifted my bottom from the seat by that time my husband was out of the car and trying to lay my seat back so that I was comfortable. I told him her head is out you have to catch her bc I was still supporting my body in a lifted position as soon has he put his hands there the next contraction came and she was in her father hands.

Ari was delivered into the hands of her father🫶🏾

I remember the fear I felt when I actually thought about how it would feel to have her naturally. Demi was a hospital birth. Story for another day. Let the fear go embrace the nature. #explorepage✨

Imagine getting the call that your loved one died while in custody—and months later, your family is still searching for answers.

Imagine being the person in distress, gasping for air, possibly hearing the people around you calling and pleading for help. Imagine knowing something is terribly wrong, knowing you need help, and watching that help walk away.

How does a family live with that?

How do we accept a family still having unanswered questions about the circumstances surrounding their loved one’s death?

No matter why Deavon was incarcerated, **he was still a human being.**

He was a son.
A brother.
A family member.
A friend.
A person who was deeply loved by many.

Being incarcerated should never mean that your life no longer matters. It should never mean that cries for medical help can be ignored.

Our family deserves answers.
Deavon deserves accountability.
Deavon deserves to have his story heard.

We will continue asking questions. We will continue speaking his name. And we will continue seeking the truth about what happened to **Deavon Jaheim Scott.**

Remembering Deavon Scott because they thought he was nobody….
Didn’t know he has a mountain backing him.. power horse my brother deserve peace….
He deserve justice… @ryankeiththompson we demand change not only in our streets but in this prison system as well… my brother should be alive… bc of a stereotype he’ll never take another breath again… a place he should’ve come home from he died in…. People hired to serve as guards should also be accountable for neglect amongst other things..

Something’s we just can’t live with and some people we can’t live without. It’s so much I want to say that I can’t.

Justice at some point won’t be enough. It won’t heal the ache and agony that has tormented me since feb. 11th 3:40am …. 7 missed phone calls from my sister. And my husband waking me up to his phone ringing. I never thought I’d hear those words “Tykeisha momma got a call from the jail they say Deavon dead.”

Couldn’t believe it… still can’t…
