Imagine getting the call that your loved one died while in custody—and months later, your family is still searching for answers.

Imagine being the person in distress, gasping for air, possibly hearing the people around you calling and pleading for help. Imagine knowing something is terribly wrong, knowing you need help, and watching that help walk away.

How does a family live with that?

How do we accept a family still having unanswered questions about the circumstances surrounding their loved one’s death?

No matter why Deavon was incarcerated, **he was still a human being.**

He was a son.
A brother.
A family member.
A friend.
A person who was deeply loved by many.

Being incarcerated should never mean that your life no longer matters. It should never mean that cries for medical help can be ignored.

Our family deserves answers.
Deavon deserves accountability.
Deavon deserves to have his story heard.

We will continue asking questions. We will continue speaking his name. And we will continue seeking the truth about what happened to **Deavon Jaheim Scott.**

**If you witnessed what happened to Deavon or have information surrounding his death while at River Bend Detention Center, please come forward. You may remain anonymous.**

Today’s walk for Deavon Scott was nothing short of powerful. What started as a call for justice turned into a movement of unity, strength, and purpose. Our community showed up and showed out—walking together, covering miles, and making sure Deavon’s name and story are heard loud and clear.

Every step taken was a step toward awareness, accountability, and change. We walked not only in remembrance, but in determination—to bring light to the reality of inmate deaths and the urgent need for transparency and justice.

Thank you to everyone who came, supported, and stood in solidarity. This is what community looks like. This is what purpose feels like. And this is only the beginning.

Deavon Scott was to be in court Tuesday February the 10th, instead his family received a call saying he died while being housed at Riverbend detention center. Aye y’all when are you ready to start demanding the rights we have, and our loved ones have?!! This child should have been preparing for court 🙏🏽. @midwifethaijordan

He didn’t deserve to die. Riverbend and East Baton Rouge Parish prison we need answers. Deavon Scott should have been in court today unfortunately he died and the correctional officers didn’t rush to his aid they just assumed he was high on mojo. Even though he didn’t smoke. 🙏🏽🙏🏽 my thoughts and prayers are with the family @midwifethaijordan
