I have been on the roof @canvasdallas at least a dozen times. But never like this. Because every other time I chose insecurity over joy.

We were talking about body image issues and my friend said, “get over yourself”…. I ain’t like it, but he’s not wrong. Insecurity isn’t special, there is no monopoly on body image issues, imposter syndrome, or traumatic self-esteem altering experiences. Go to therapy but also - get over yourself.

No cute dump, just a time capsule for myself. This Spring was rough. Depression wrapped her greedy hands around me and wouldn’t let go. But I played, touched actual grass, blew bubbles, read poetry in the park. I saw strategy get out of the deck and into real life for once. Completed my first 5K. I ate some beautiful meals in the good company of myself and others. I wrote a Substack (more soon). I founded a strategy studio and got clients. I got ignored or rejected from 46 job applications. I got hired by one. Spent a day in the country. I took a bass guitar lesson and a DJ class. I wept. I laughed so hard I couldn’t breathe. I ran miles and liked it. I lived. And maybe that’s the point. by @bis4bri

One of them “I like art” type girls.

It’s rare I see myself on the walls in gallery spaces. Which is why I go see @actualfootageofme’s work every chance I get. The pieces are joyous, colorful, textured, and Black AF (which is extra dope because they don’t even have brown skin), and there are always depictions of big body bookish girls with pop culture nods.
