I’ve always loved cycling, but as a larger-bodied rider, I’ve often felt out of place in the competitive cycling scene. I still struggle with mirrors and photos, but the way I feel on a bike—strong, free, and alive—helps me forget those thoughts.

At the start of 2024, I joined Indigo Cycling Chicago and set big goals: get faster, lose weight, and compete. But beneath the surface, I was also battling my inner pressure to overcome my body image issues and life stresses. I wanted to prove—to myself and others—that I could be strong, fast, and competitive, no matter my size. That pressure pushed me to train harder, but I went too far, too fast. Two injuries later—a shoulder impact in May and a broken collarbone in July—I was sidelined, reaching 255lbs and questioning if I’d ever be strong enough to ride competitively.

2025, I’m rebuilding smarter. With the help of a coach, dietitian, and better habits, I’ve lost 10lbs since January and hit new milestones:
✅ FTP ↗️ 257w at 245lbs
✅ 5-sec peak power: 1168w
✅ 367 miles and 15,047ft of elevation in AZ (even though I got dropped 😅)

The journey hasn’t been linear, but I’m learning to honor how far I’ve come, not just where I’m going. To anyone feeling like their body is holding them back: “It’s not about where you’re at, but how far you’ve come. Take it bit by bit.” 💪

Shoutout to @indigocyclingchicago for the support and camaraderie 🚴‍♂️💜

@gravel_worlds was supposed to be my A race, then one small "slip" ended it. I broke my hand and my motivation wavered; I couldn't get out of my head. Race week arrived and I decided to go; not as a racer, but as team support and community member.

The boothing at the expo for @indigocyclingchicago was amazing. I was humbled by the time the riders gave to learn about indigo and our mission to increase diversity in the cycling community. Huge thanks @laufcycles , @bisaddle , @never.second , and @silca_velo being so welcoming at the expo!

Volunteering at the gate to the Hanger feed station was quite the sight! I got to catch my buddy, kai coming through as well as the pro women and pro men fields rolling through! It was so much fun cheering everyone from the 75-milers to the 300-milers!

Proud of my friends and teammates! @leg0less with 1st in para 75, @luipedals with 10th in age cat 150 and @_dustin.thewind_ with 16th in age cat 150. Indigo is such an amazing team and I'm proud to be apart of it.

gravel worlds has been my best cycling experience so far. I had no regrets with not being able to race. Watching and being apart of the spirit of this community reminded me of why I love cycling so much. I hope to return next year as a racer!

Also I won a @lauf bike in the raffle. I'm so excited for it! taken in Lincoln, Nebraska by @bitbybit_move

Unbound was truly a trip of a lifetime—one of the hardest and most memorable races I’ve ever done. I hit a few bumps along the way: an uncalibrated power meter, a slow leak that had me literally spitting on the tire to try to find air bubbles, and most of all, my nutrition plan falling apart. By mile 40, I was ready to quit.

But through sheer stubbornness, support from my fellow gravel riders, and encouraging text messages, I pushed through. After 8 hours and 6 minutes, I crossed the finish line of the 100 mile race—spent, but proud. The Kansas hills and sun were no joke, but they made it unforgettable.

I want to be back for the 100. I know I’ve got more in me, and I want redemption.

Huge thanks to @lookcycle for the opportunity, @indigocyclingchicago for the community and support, @saltstick for saving my cramping legs, and @kevinreedy , @trevorghess , and @kessle10 for the coming through and letting me tag along on this adventure. by @bitbybit_move
