Transforming music into experiences
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Some INCREDIBLE scenes here at @colourscape_music_festival over the weekend. A space of inclusion, music and senses. Thank you so much for having us. Xx

The gorgeous team who pulled it off. Every performer in bittersuite has a little element of magic. They are all deep listeners, extremely generous and down to earth, and they are the people who make the performances have this extra quality of intimacy and magic. Without them the work just simply wouldn’t register in the way it does @luannabrc @danny_pagarani @theweirdbird @conn_sistently_iconnique94 @stephanie_singer_

Bodies Tilted brought together so many of the things we love — pulsing electronic sound, layered with live instruments, played beautifully by Danny Pagarani and Tanya Auclair.

It brought together new faces and long-time collaborators.
It welcomed audiences across 26 shows as part of one of London’s most exciting multi-disciplinary festivals.
It was joyful, wild, intense — and a total blast to make.

Now, Bodies Tilted is ready for its next chapter.
We’re opening it up for touring and future invitations — and we can’t wait to see where it travels next.

One of the things we’ve learned through our practice is how deeply the body responds when it’s invited into a state of listening.

When the nervous system settles, time can stretch. Small movements can feel enormous. A shift in weight or balance — even just a few degrees — can change how we understand ourselves in space.

That’s what we explored in this moment: a gentle tip of the body, leaning someone backwards in their chair. It looks subtle from the outside, but the person feeling it might experience a full-body sensation — of letting go, of floating, of trust.

This kind of work has been shaped by years of inquiry and study from core artist and founding creative Anna Pearce, who’s helped us understand how touch and movement can shift perception — not just physically, but emotionally.

We’re always asking: how can we work with the body’s own intelligence to awaken something new?

“It reminded me of the joy to be alive.”

With Bodies Tilted, we set out to build choreography and music that awakened the senses, stirred memory, and connect us with this sensation of “the beautiful strange”. The beautiful strangeness of the body, the world and the unique beauty of us and our bodies.

Bittersuite has always been about that — forming temporary cultures, fleeting but real, rooted in attentiveness and care. A space where dancers, musicians and audiences come together and reimagine what connection can feel like.

Every choreographic gesture was a question:
Can we draw your attention to the parts of your body you forget to love?
Can sensation arrive in unexpected places — behind the ear, the back of the knee — and feel like a revelation?
Can taste confuse your expectations and open your imagination?

We believe these moments — where logic collapses and wonder floods in — make awe possible.

And awe reminds us we’re here.

This work was shaped by the hands and imaginations of Eileih Muir and Stephanie Singer, with deep creative collaboration from Anna Pearce and Ashraf Ejjbair, and the visionary producing of Deborah Bankole.

“This is one of the most profound experiences I’ve had.”

An audience member offered these words after experiencing Bodies Tilted. They said it felt like awe.

Awe has become one of our central research themes — not just as a poetic ideal, but as a powerful physiological and social experience that we want to be a small part in fostering in our experiences and workshops.

We’ve drawn inspiration from the work of Dacher Keltner, who describes awe as collective effervescence — a moment when we feel part of something larger than ourselves. And from Martha Newsom, who names identity fusion — when individuals merge into a unified whole through shared emotional experience.

We love to create spaces where the body can feel, through music, movement, and sensation - that we belong to something vast and deeply human.

In a time of division, we think awe becomes not just a feeling, but an act of resistance. A moment to see our uniqueness And be suspended — together — in the collective.

Pictured here: the luminous Jordan, one of our new guides, leading with presence and care.

In this moment, Jordan, alongside all the dancers, invites the audience into a self-touch ritual — gently stroking the arms, hands, and face. A practice rooted in somasensory stimulation, known to calm the nervous system, soften cortisol spikes, and awaken sensory attention.

We wanted to foster gestures to build collective trust. and to share some self-touch practices for the group to recenter in their own bodies — And also back into the room, together.

During this performance we began to consider sensation and immersion, as not something that only one person experience at one time but also as a version of community building.

In 2023, we arrived at Southbank Centre as part of Christine and the Queens’ Meltdown Festival. For five weeks, we turned our process inside-out.

This time, we weren’t only making a performance to be felt. We asked: What happens when you witness feeling?

BODIES TILTED was born.
A new work developed in deep collaboration with dancers from The Place, Rambert, and our incredible core team.
Guided by sensation. Carried by music. Seen in stillness.

The work drew from the melodies, baselines, and emotional landscapes threaded through Christine & The Queens' back catalogue.
New score by Stephanie Singer in collaboration with Julian Wharton.
Choreographic design by Eileih Muir, with guidance and provocation from Ashraf Ejjbair and Anna Pearce.

This was also a moment of teaching —
passing on the BitterSuite Method to a new generation of guides,
each one contributing their own instincts, insight, and care.

Together, we explored what it means to be moved —
by sound, by touch, by presence, by witnessing.

Violet isn’t done.She’s becoming.

A new chapter is on the horizon — and we’re listening for her signal.

Watch this space. The next transmission is coming.

#10yearsofbittersuiteViolet is stirring again.

Back in development, she’s growing — voice deepening, edges sharpening, story expanding.

Set for a bold new debut in 2027–28, Violet continues to evolve under the care and vision of lead artist and composer @stephanie_singer_, who’s been quietly writing, dreaming, listening.

Thanks to generous support from Okre Foundation, we entered a new phase of exploration — gathering with a powerful team of creatives: Naala Lartey, Emily Wren, and Sunnah Khan — to go deeper into Violet’s world.

We asked:What happens when pleasure meets accountability? When forgiveness lives in the body? What is rave as ritual? And what does it mean to be disrupted — lovingly, powerfully — from within?

This chapter is slower. Quieter. Listening for the next frequency. But Violet is on her way.

Pictured here: the incredible team from Canada, LA, the UK and beyond — gathered in front of our foyer installation, which welcomed more than 1,500 guests over the two-month run of DIVA at CircOpera, Finnish National Opera.

This work — like every Bittersuite production — was only possible through collaboration.

Every time we make something, we get the chance to build a new kind of system:Not individualistic. But relational.Held by reciprocity.By skill-sharing.By trust.
Collaboration isn’t a strategy — it’s our ethic.Our devotion.Our way of doing and being.
Each piece is a testament to what’s possible when people work in deep connection with one another. And this one was no exception.
