It’s been a minute. This old dog is getting itchy to put on a jersey again. Remember surf contests? They were fun. I think this was the last heat that I surfed in back in February. Actually found out later that I had Covid while surfing in this heat. 😷 Piss off Covid I wanna compete! I spent half of a decade getting myself back into good enough shape to surf after my accident, so yeah not stoked. Just want the sport that I love to come back. I’m taking it as a win. 😆 Finally feeling a lot more durable to go out and get launched by backwash in hurricane swell and not worry so bad about re- injuring something. Plus this is what happens to anyone talking shit about a hurricane swell in their stories. (Guilty)

Concussion recovery 2.0. Retraining my brain how to surf again. It’s starting to come back to me. And don’t let anyone tell ya you can’t do turns with a helmet on. Fun times playing with hurricane Genevieve. ( Even if she was kind of a tease. ) 😆

Last year I wasn’t sure how much I’d be paddling again. Two years ago I was on track to do the Catalina Classic. This morning just stoked nothing hurts too bad. Life’s weird. Enjoy as much of it as you can. 💪🏻

Concussion recovery is so frustrating. You really have to train your brain really hard to remember the detailed and hard stuff it used to be able to do. I was definitely kook of the day during this session. Miss timing everything. But it’s slowly coming back….again. Can’t go through this anymore. Might just be a wave pool surfer from now on. The last year and a half has been fucking brutal. A major neck injury that I tried to walk off and tough it out for almost a year. Stem cell injections when I realized toughing it out wasn’t an option anymore. The realization that the collision that I had did in fact give me another small TBI. Having to completely readjust my diet and stop drinking alcohol. (Dropped 22 lbs in 6 weeks from that alone.) My body basically forcing me to quit teaching beginner surfing lessons. Spending over $10k in out of pocket medical bills.

I’m finally starting to feel like myself again. Feeling about 80% right now. I’ll end by saying what I always say. If you’re a beginner surfer. No one owes you a wave. Stay at the beginner spots until you’re genuinely ready to progress to more advanced spots. You have to earn your way into lineups like we all did. It’s not about localism. It’s about safety.
