Ditching the silicone for a cleaner, smarter upgrade! Introducing this custom blue rubber gasket method for sealing the back doors of the Hurricane. Not only does it create an incredible seal, but the vibrant blue perfectly matches our signature Hurricane style! 🌪️Note when reinstalling the doors with these new gaskets, do not over-tighten the screws. Big progress on our new CNC vacuum hold-down system! 💨🔥

The @blackboxvac Hurricane is officially powered up, and this thing has some serious suction! 💪 It’s running great—and I’m genuinely impressed by how much quieter it is than I expected.

Next up: hoses, ductwork, and getting everything connected to the CNC. A lot of those parts will be custom 3D printed, and once we have the system dialed in, we’ll make our designs available so you can build your own setup too. 😎👍

What a show! IWF Atlanta 2026 was a lot of work, but it was also a whole lot of fun.

A HUGE thank you to all of our Black Box Vacuum customers who stopped by our booth to show their support. It was so much fun seeing familiar faces, catching up, and meeting so many new people.

One of our favorite parts was watching people’s reactions when they got to actually feel what vacuum hold-down can do.

We tested some muscles! People felt our Hurricane pull small pieces of MDF, acrylic, and other materials down onto a spoilboard and hold them there.

And then we added the Grip-Lock Mat. Same small pieces, but this time they got to really test those muscles and feel the increase in lateral hold-down force. The reactions were priceless. 😄

Tradeshow days are long and there is a LOT of work that goes into them, but getting to interact with our customers and talk vacuum hold-down with people who love CNC as much as we do makes it all worth it.

Some customer names tell you exactly what they make.

The Bad Idea Factory is not one of those customers!!!!

Their name might suggest questionable decisions, but the quality, creativity, and craftsmanship coming out of their shop are anything but bad ideas.

In this video, you can see a simple vacuum hold-down trick: covering the exposed areas of the spoilboard with corrugated plastic.

Why does that help?

Vacuum works best when you’re not constantly trying to pull air through a huge open area of spoilboard. Covering the unused areas with a non-porous material reduces the amount of air your vacuum has to move and helps concentrate the vacuum on the area underneath your workpiece.

Think of it as giving your vacuum fewer places to breathe.

It’s a simple trick that can make a noticeable difference when you’re cutting a smaller part on a larger vacuum table.

And apparently, sometimes the Bad Idea Factory has some really good ideas.

Every great project is a team effort.

Take a look at the work from Vertical Grains Projects. Work like this doesn’t happen with one person, one machine, or one idea. It takes architects, designers, engineers, builders, fabricators, installers, and a whole lot of skilled hands working together to get from an idea to the finished piece.

One of our favorite parts of what we do is working with schools.

Every CNC router, every classroom, and every project represents students who are discovering what they’re capable of creating.

Wheeling High School’s Fabrication Technology program introduces students to CNC machining, digital design, and fabrication. Combined with District 214’s Practical Architectural Construction (PAC) program, students have opportunities to apply those skills to real construction projects that serve the community.

That’s an investment that lasts far beyond graduation.

⚠️ Dust Doesn’t Just Make a Mess — It Can Create a Fire Hazard ⚠️

MDF dust, wood dust, and production debris have a way of getting everywhere—including electrical receptacles and plugs.

Over time, dust can build up inside and around outlets, creating excess heat and increasing the risk of electrical failure or even fire. Regularly cleaning around receptacles and covering unused outlets can help prevent a serious problem before it starts.

Recently, we worked with a customer whose power cord became extremely hot. While their vacuum was plugged in and operating normally, dust accumulation in the receptacle was a contributing factor that should not be overlooked.

A few minutes of preventative maintenance can save thousands of dollars in damaged equipment—and potentially much more. by @blackboxvac
