The UK Black Comms Network and The Independent present: ✨An Evening With Symeon Brown ✨

Join us for a fireside conversation on the 28th October with Ch4 News Journalist and Author of ‘The Good, The Black, and The Boujee’, Symeon Brown

Symeon will join an audience of communicators, creatives and industry leaders for an honest conversation about ambition, class and what “Black excellence” really costs. The book is the product of years of research and draws on the largest known data study of Britain’s Black middle class and elite.

Hosted by Kamiqua Lake we’ll discuss the questions the book raises: how Black Britons have risen to the top of some of the country’s most visible industries, why so many still say racism is getting harder to navigate, and what a growing Black middle class means for everyone else.

Happy Black History Month!! 🫶🏾

This year’s theme is “Honouring Our Communities”. As such, at UK Black Comms Network, we are highlighting some of our members’ favourite communities. The spaces that make them feel safe, welcome, and celebrated.

We start with Black Introvert Week UK, an initiative led by BCN member Richard Etienne.

Black Introvert Week UK helps organisations and educational institutions better understand the individuality and intersectionality of their Black employees and students through panel discussions, thought leadership and social campaigns.

Six years of the UK Black Comms Network, and we’re celebrating in style!

Last night we launched “An Evening With,” a new UK BCN series, aimed at platforming the game changing storytellers within our industry and beyond.

Our inaugural guest: award-winning Writer, Actor, Director, Adjani Salmon [ @s.adjani ]

We watched two episodes of Dreaming Whilst Black, then sat down for a real conversation hosted by our founder @kamiqualake

We heard about Adjani’s life and work in Jamaica before moving to the UK. The web series where it all started. The pressure to avoid typecasting. The power of storytelling, life imitating art and what happens when you boldly execute your vision.

The Q&A ran long and networking ran longer. It was exactly the room we set out to build.

Last night we were reminded to “just go for it” and it was full circle moment to host an intimate chat with the winner of our first Cultural Impact Award.

Thank you to everyone who came out and stayed late.
