Dr. Nicola Abbott caught the Awaken Genius fire and we are thrilled to share that she has officially joined our Awaken Genius community!

The Awaken Genius programme utilises creative arts, somatic movement, and play-based activities to equip children with essential emotional regulation tools, strengthen peer relationships, and build lasting confidence. As a family-based wraparound intervention, our evidence-informed approach actively engages parents and carers alongside children to build resilient support systems at home. Supported by registered drama and art psychotherapists, trauma-informed educators, and specialist youth mentors, we deliver early mental health support before crisis point—measurably reducing school exclusions so children can thrive both academically and socially.

Prevention Before Punishment: Safeguarding Black Children & Families Through Early Intervention

Childhood trauma deeply influences behavior, yet Black children are disproportionately funneled into school exclusions and Pupil Referral Units—fueling the school-to-prison pipeline.

At Awaken Genius, we step in before a crisis happens.

Since January 2026, our multi-year residency at Somerford Grove Adventure Playground (Northumberland Park, Tottenham) has been delivering early, family-based mental wellness support for vulnerable Black children and families. Healing is already taking place.

Hear from Tam Carrington, Senior Playworker at Somerford Grove Adventure Playground, as he shares what makes Awaken Genius so special: replacing standard drop-offs with full, whole-family engagement.

With a dedicated team of educational, art, drama, and psychodrama therapists, Awaken Genius provides a playful yet deeply professional space where children can process complex emotions safely.

When children see their parents involved, supported, and sharing playful moments alongside them, it reinforces a true sense of safety—showing them the world isn't always heavy or serious. By staying for the whole session, parents and children continuously strengthen their bond in a community rooted in Ubuntu.

🔥 SHE ANSWERED THE CALL. 🔥

Sheila White is a Dramatherapist with decades of experience working in education and supporting children and young people.

She met Michael online just one day before our Awaken Genius induction. Her curiosity about our approach to early therapeutic intervention and wrap-around support for Black children and families led her to show up the very next day.

Seven hours of experiential training.

On a Saturday.

She still answered the call. ❤️

And she caught the Awaken Genius fire. 🔥
