🎬 SANDIWARA 🎬 An independent film by @mrselfportrait Residency . Sandiwarafilm.com
It was a true honor to be part of this latest short film project — a collaboration between director Sean Baker @bakermovies and Michelle Yeoh @michelleyoeh_official . Shot entirely on iPhone in the vibrant heart of Penang, Malaysia, the film beautifully weaves together Malaysian cuisine, culture, and color across five distinct narrative dimensions.
Collaborating with such a world-class international crew has been an absolute masterclass. Thank you to Hong Kiat Goh @hkiat for bringing me onto this project. It was also a privilege working alongside DOP @Christopher.c.ripley — Huge fan of your vision and your eye for light. Written, Directed, and Edited by Sean Baker @bakermovies Producer & 2nd Unit Director Alex Coco @alexcocofyi Producer Samantha Quan @sammylquan Director of Photography Christopher Ripley @Christopher.c.ripley

Behind the Scenes of a Cinematic Car Shoot with a Robotic Arm 🤖🚗 This was our first time working with a robotic arm, and let me tell you — motion control is a whole different game. Why? Because robotic camera moves usually mean longer takes — you’re hitting multiple target points in one move. Unless you’re speed ramping, those shots easily go past 3 seconds. Me and Baptiste realized this only during our trial run. Sometimes visualizing an idea isn’t enough — you’ve got to feel it, test it, live it. Camera movements are always fun… but robotic camera movements? That’s another level. 🔥 Huge thanks to the team behind the collaboration: Car by @baptistelejeune Robots by @blackillusion___ Lighting by @blackilluminar Crew: @ngyapzhong @jessiexxuan @kerkkks @xingnghangng @ypleeee @afiqokay BTS: @jewelling @itsduniaamir Studio by @shilohstudioskl by @blackilluminar

What kind of robotic‑arm shot do you want to see next? Black Illusion is proud to announce the arrival of our new 3.2m motion control robotic arm! With our original 1.6m arm already in action, we now offer two different sizes giving productions the flexibility to choose between compact setups for tighter spaces and wide-reaching moves for larger-scale shots.
