Dr. LaDavious McNair, is originally from Fayetteville NC and a current resident of Atlanta Georgia. Dr. McNair is an Army veteran. He later pursued a Master’s in Strategic Leadership Development at Clayton State University, which he completed in 2021. After finishing his dissertation entitled “‭THE STORY OF RESILIENCE: AFRICAN AMERICAN MALES’ EDUCATIONAL JOURNEYS ‬ AFTER GRADE RETENTION‭”, Dr. McNair graduated in Spring 2025 with his Ed.D in ‬Higher Educational Leadership.

He aspires to be an educational policy maker, while sharing his life experiences as a motivational speaker and a college professor! taken in Clark Atlanta University by @blackmalephds

I Am Black History ✊🏿

February 23 marks 3 years since I successfully defended by dissertation, earning a Ph.D. in Educational Administration from Indiana State University.

This day symbolizes so many powerful things for me. It represents faith, discipline, perseverance, and the audacity to do what many thought that I wouldn’t be able to do. During the journey, I never stopped thinking about what it meant to not be defined by the weight of your circumstances. What it means to have failed the 3rd grade and have grew up in poverty experiencing homelessness, shelters, and foster care. To have found a home in education because of its promise to help me escape poverty. I never stopped thinking about my responsibility to take advantage of the opportunities presented to me as a way to pay it forward for the next generation. I never stopped thinking my parent’s encouragement and belief in me being able to navigate this journey in spite of being a first-generation high school graduate turned Ph.D.

So today, I dust off the regalia and soak in those special words spoken over me from my dissertation chair. This day will forever represent something incredibly special that can’t be taken away. It’s a generational curse broken, and a new level of possibilities unlocked. For me, but more importantly, for us!
