✨ Five years of championing young readers in Ghana! ✨

A huge congratulations to @certified_book_lover on the incredible milestone of the fifth edition of @a_book_for_christmas .This isn’t just a celebration, it’s a testament to a vital movement. In Ghana, the opportunity to fall in love with reading is a privilege far too few children have:
• 📚 Only 7% of children have books at home (Worldreader, 2023).
• 📖 Only 24% of young children (4-6) are read to regularly (2014 GDHS).

This work is not just important; it’s essential. @a_book_for_christmas is directly tackling these alarming statistics by sparking a readership revolution and, every Christmas, putting crucial books into the hands of children.

To mark this fifth edition, I’m thrilled to see the launch of “A Book for Christmas: Letters of Inspiration”, a compilation of letters that shows how a single idea can grow into a wave of change.

Thank you for sharing this gift with me. But above all, thank you @certified_book_lover for your unwavering commitment to Ghana’s future.

This is impact in action. Join the revolution. Consider supporting @a_book_for_christmas to help turn the page for even more children. Every book donated writes a new future❤️. by @blackreader_diary

🍉Read Palestine Week🍉 29 Nov - 05 Dec 2025

Hi #bookstagram
From participating in solidarity campaigns by the Socialist Movement of Ghana, to standing in solidarity with Palestine against the genocide by Israel. Here are two books I will be reading for this seven-day #readpalestineweek :

🍉The Revolution Of 1936-1939 In Palestine by Ghassan Kanafani
🍉Mornings in Jenin by Susan Abulhawa

I strongly agree that we should make reading and learning about Palestine a form of solidarity. Knowing and understanding the history and struggle teaches us that what is happening to Palestinians on their land and dignity can happen elsewhere.

How can we help if we aren’t aware of the situation? How can we help if we don’t know how to discern what is actually needed? And how can we have conversations and debates if we refuse to read or listen to better comprehend the Palestinian experience, which is also our experience, given that the core cause of the entire problem emanates from a single source — a system that is wreaking havoc all around us?

Hi #bookstgram

Here are three books that are broad historical analyses that challenge dominant narratives by centring systemic forces like economics and imperialism. Western historiography has often presented history as a series of great men, discrete events, or a natural progression where some cultures were inherently more “advanced” than others. These books directly counter that.

✨Capitalism and Slavery:
Williams posit that the rise of industrial capitalism made the slave system economically obsolete and less profitable for the British elite. He places the economic system, not just morality, at the centre of this major historical shift.

✨How Europe Underdeveloped Africa: Rodney argues that Africa’s “underdevelopment” was not an original state but an active process caused by the imperialist and capitalist systems. He details how the slave trade and then colonialism systematically extracted Africa’s wealth and dismantled its political and economic structures to serve European development.

✨An African History of Africa: Badawi challenges the narrative that Africa had no “history” worth studying before European contact. Badawi’s work challenges the systemic force of imperialist historiography itself, the way history has been written, framed, and erased by colonial powers. By reclaiming the narrative and focusing on pre-colonial kingdoms, trade networks, and cultures, she counters the systemic intellectual imperialism that has long defined Africa’s past. taken in Accra by @blackreader_diary
